@@rasam-rasathanthram2435 Addition of Phenolphtalein to water changes its colour to purple or pink, this is just because it's more attractive and interesting to the eye, it does not change the experiment.

This demonstration DOES NOT show the hydroscopic nature of ammonia. It works equally as well if you use plain water vapor in the flask. You get a fountain, but not a color change. The purpose of the ammonia vapor in the flask is to react with the phenolphathalein to get a color change. Try any other base indicator-- or, better yet, try universal indicator.
