My 3rd video in english. Since my own projects take up too much time, for now, I'm forced to release less complex projects, like translations. Moreover, I need to focus more on my studies in college. Nevertheless, thank you very much for the words of support and positive feedback in the comments on the previous video!
The most original version of this video is in the archives, so here is the link to one of the earlier videos on original russian language: • Производство аммиака (...
Translated video is a bit messy sometimes, but I hope you like it.

Funny thing about the guy who won a Nobel prize for this process, He also brought us chemical weapons. Fritz Haber is quite a tragic story.

Very good video, I like how the voice sounds period-accurate with the accent. I remember we had to write coursework on such processes on our third year of university. I had sufuric acid production, and others had topics ranging from production of ammonia, nitric acid, nitrate fertilizers to organic acids.

Thanks for sharing this with us. This is one of the best films to introduce people to the Haber-Bosch Process that I have seen.

Thanks. Interesting, isn't it? The seemingly simple process has resulted in a considerable increase in human prosperity and is directly responsible for the lives of about 6 billion people through the production of agricultural fertilizers and by inference much of the industrial basis of commercial manufacturing. Just a few chemists asking basic questions. Haber-Bosch process. Boggle. Made much of WWI and II possible, in the form that it took. Explosives and gunpowder. So, a deliberate, conscious choice, something to eat or a serious argument?

The old process still used stabilization and extraction of ammonia from a gas mixture using water - ammonia dissolves well in water, especially under pressure, but hydrogen and nitrogen dissolve poorly. And extracting ammonia from its aqueous solution is quite simple. That's pretty much what they did.

The energy production also produces waste - at least back then. Now we can use nuclear and other green options, though this is a process that requires continual energy input. You either need nuclear (or fossil fuel burning) to maintain the cycle as energy storage is not yet a decent solution. Also interesting, over 1% of the world's energy output goes into making ammonia. Much of it is turned into fertilizer which is how we feed the planet.

The greenest options available are nuclear and oil and gas oil and gas are in fact the greenest of the chemical sources of producing heat nuclear is by far the most efficient and actually one of the safest ways. There are no dinosaurs in oil and gas it had nothing to do with any fossils nor are any fossils harmed or in any way utilized in the production of oil and gas only heat pressure and two of the most plentiful elements in the universe. Being made under your feet as you read this carbon monoxide and dioxide combine with hydrogen in a never ending cycle❤ We can never run out there will never be a runaway carbon cycle because the carbon is constantly being combined with hydrogen under pressure of the Earth and numerous hydrocarbons are produced and sequestered in the crust of the Earth as oil and gas.

If you really think about it and look closely you will see nothing is ever wasted the cycle of our Earth all pollutants man-made or otherwise are always recycled.

Not entirely waste free. Back then, they might not have been concerned about the carbon dioxide produced to make the hydrogen from natural gas.
@EdwardTriesToScience
@EdwardTriesToScience 4 ай бұрын
the carbon dioxide is sometimes bottled up though and used for other industrial processes which is nice, as well as more recent hydrogen production uses steam reformation converting the methane into hydrogen and carbon monoxide which is more useful in industry such as making methanol, slowly but surely the processes are optimized to reduce waste
