Hope you guys enjoy the episode. For the record, I used products in the water-sheet vs water beading demo I knew were 1. Safe 2. Beaded like crazy...just to have some fun and spark conversation. I like products that bead as well. Feels super smooth to the touch. I love seeing them roll up my hood when driving in the rain. I just think that water sheeting gets a bad-rap and customers believe the paint must NOT have protection because its not beading, which we know is not true. (At least not anymore. That is an old way of thinking and it was valid at the time. But times have changed) I think have both beading and sheeting can be helpful based on your situation. For example, if you live in an apartment and parked out side all the time...and you had sprinklers next to your car. Then I would say SHEETING is the way to go to avoid the inevitable water-spotting. If you were only going to car shows and your car lived indoors all the time, them beading might be better because it feels super smooth. No right answer, just wanted to have a little fun. Hope you enjoy the video and I appreciate you watching! -Larry

I just have to say making the new spit formula fluorescent is such a brilliant idea to protect from UV light. I think most traditional sunscreens absorb the light or reflect it so this is a really interesting take on it. Also if you do that with wax you can use the UV light to see when your wax needs to be reapplied. Brilliant!!!

When people ask me about beading vs sheeting I say this “you know when the random short spring/summer rain shower rolls through, you come out to your car and you have all those dirty circles left behind? That’s the downside to beading. Sheeting allows the water to run off along with the contamination.”

I was born in L.A. and I was a car guy. For the last 20 years I've been living in NYC and I'm a subway guy. I miss cars so I come to KZbin for my fix. I love this channel and you've torn apart my old school ways of taking care of a car. I use to pull my car into the driveway and wash it using a garden hose and a little dishwashing soap and a rag. I never liked shammies so I would dry my car with an old bath towel. Every 6 months I would wax my car. For shine I would use Armor All on my tires and inside of the car on my dash. That's it. Every once in a while I would take my car to the car wash and power wash my engine too. I know, after seeing what you do here makes me hang my head low in shame. This brings me to what I've discovered lately. Paint Protection Film (PPF) and Ceramic Coatings. Sorry...I didn't know they existed. Last night I discovered the ISM Kamikazee Coating. The Kamikazee looks revolutionary. Am I missing something here? You use it once every 3 years and you can clean your car with water only? Do you ever use Kamikazee or Ceramic Coatings to protect a car? Why or why not? I dream of someday being able to afford a concours winning '65 Mustang convertible and having it detailed by you. Your brain is insane. I love to watch you think. Thank you.

I feel like every time I watch one of Larry's videos that I'm getting a free masters class in whatever subject he's covering. I like how you always say to only use clay when it's absolutely necessary and not on a regular basis, you see to many detail channels where guys just do it for no real good reason other than a client has asked for it. Looking forward to some more videos in 2020!!
@HEMi19954 жыл бұрын
chilybil23 the thing is that any car that hasn’t ever seen a real detail in its life, it more than likely needs a clay since there are yeeeeaaars worth of bonded contaminants sitting on the it. Now if a car is maintained properly throughout its life it probably doesn’t need one. But it’s worth it to test first. Paint feel rough? Clay it. Smooth? Move along.

Larry, as always, the thought, effort, time, blood and sweat going into these videos is just breathtaking. The quality and amount of information your audience recieves trough yourself is truly something to treasure. To see you, as passionate as you are for your job, company, the brand you're creating, and the chemistry behind and the effect of your products strikes me deeply. Especially the debate between Sheeting and Beading, which you so carefully laid out, I find really interesting and I would really love to learn more about. If possible, I would love for you to explain the benefits and downsides of both these effects, with some in-depth analysis, as you've shown before. I'm also very curious what is to become of your brand, especially on the above subject, since, like you said "Beading sells, that's a fact." Though in my opinion, it can most certainly do harm to one's car, in certain situations. Again, I appreciate all you have done thus far very much and I wish that all the visions you have will play out exactly as you hope.

Great video man honestly, you do incredible work. If you park outside or salty environment you're gonna clay more then someone in FL. However I love claybaring my windshield, I park outside under trees unfortunately but it helps the wipers run so much smoother. I also use it on exterior home windows with lots of lubrication and it works amazingly well. Sheathing is much better anyday, water drops act like a magnifying glass, happens on skin as well if water drops stay on your skin.

the reason why people (including myself) look for beading is to check if the paint protection is still there. Sheeting is still a good way to tell but its harder to decipher it from regular water behaviour on a non-protected car. Also with beading i feel that any dirty water etc. that gets on the paint stays encapsulated within the water bubble and gets 'removed' with the water its in, while sheeting may leaves some dirt behind.

Hi Larry! Quick physics lesson for the day. You stated that clay works on friction, not pressure. Pressure is a function of force divided by area and friction is a function of downwards force. I.E.: The harder you push down, the greater amount of friction you are creating, work you are performing, and heat being dissipated.
