Seems like a lovely, gentle human being. Total humility despite having been in one of the most influential rock bands ever.

Underrated drummer. Classic band. And the intro song here, "O My Soul", I think showcases his finest drumming ever committed to tape.

totally, i tried to get into big star with #1 record, but it didnt really click. tried out radio city and i ended up listening to “o my soul” 10 times before i even got to “life is white”

Jody Stephens is one of my favourite drummers and main inspirations on the kit 👍🏻

Jody and Mo Tucker are in need of more recognition in the history of drummers. I recently found out that Big Star were an influence on Paul Stanley of KISS in the band's early days. That one really blew my mind!

I hear a lot of Ringo in Jody’s drumming. Fantastic.

I liked how Jody talked about Elliot with mentioning his death. There’s more, and more now and will be in the future, to who he was than his terrible end.

love that he likes elliott :,) probably meant alot to him that the drummer from one of his favorite bands likes his music.

There is some sort of similarity between T-Rex andBig Star, though T-Rex had some hits, but the early exit of Big Star and the early death of Marc Bolan. Plus T-Rex like Bay City Rollers we’re much more successful in England. Did England “accept” Big Star any more than us US?

I wonder if the band has ever talked about the name of the band and the name of the first album, possibly being a mistake. I know, when it came out, I thought it was a K-Tel Greatest Hits kinda thing and not a real band. Of course, I was like 9 years old. But even later, it seemed like a Japanese bootleg of pop music or something. Like, "Big Star! Number One!" Great band!

I think the name and record name ambiguity is kind of there on purpose. they were probably influenced by Warhol and his everyday-as-art approach and thought they wanted something that smacked of a gimmick but while listening changed your mind. Neu and a few other German groups took they approach to positive effect.

Yeah in the documentary, Jody mentioned how at first he thought the name was quite pretentious haha. He also talked about how they may have been jinxing the future calling themselves big star, they're record #1 record.
