Yup - I liked their debut to an extent, but didnt care for the sophomore at all. However, the instant I heard Taker I was intrigued enough to give the other tracks a chance. At first didnt care for Blankenship but it has really grown on me, and in the end I have the Tri-color LP - no regrets. Most of the songs have that exact shoegaze sound I love, and the songwriting itself is quite good overall, so yeah - on of my faves of the past year as well. I must say, though, the surprise Whirr record that came out about the same time is The shoegaze album of 2019 for me.

Met Rob Pollard backstage at Reading Festival (1995). Didn't know any GBV music then, as I was only 15, but he was such a cool guy. More like a school teacher/your uncle, than a rockstar - down to earth and unpretentious. that was flavorful! at the core of all the dissonance are these melancholic songs, hell yes. a perfect description of jesu, and that holds true for diiv's music in some respect. you get these two different environments but in either instance there's a gloomy song at the heart. it's awesome to know there are hip-hop and bleepy music influences alike, running thru diiv's blood.
