My wife and I saw the movie Once when it came out in the theaters and loved it. I have an emotional connection to this song (and Falling Slowly) as it reminds me of my wife's 8-year battle with breast cancer and it eventually spreading to her brain. She knew she was losing the fight, made the decision to stop doing chemotherapy and live whatever time she had left without chemicals making her feel worse. Hearing this song always makes me cry... I think of my wife and the beautiful & strong woman that she was. Thank you Glen and Marketa for such beautiful music that resonates with me and others...

Dang, I didn't see this performance, but saw Glen Hansard perform solo there a couple years later. Been a fan of his since the movie, then seeing them win the Academy Award (phenomenal!), then seeing him perform solo at Amoeba Hollywood, then at the Disney Concert Hall in DTLA. He's the best, and a big inspiration to my singing and songwriting, especially after I picked up and re-learned the guitar, where I feel I've really found my voice as an indie music artist in LA.

5/4 is an awesome time signature. I've written in that time a lot and you have to practice it slowly in order to learn what part of the guitar phrase is on what lyric. But 5/4 is a great because it ALMOST sounds like common time so it has a since of normality to it.
