I have watched only a few of his films, including Golmaal (ofc) and Chhoti Si Baat. But I admire Mr. Palekar a lot. I remember my father told me a story about him meeting Amol Palekar in a flight to Mumbai. So the story goes: My father was an MR (medical rep) for a France-based company back in the day. He used to go to Mumbai at least once a month to attend official meetings. One time, he was seated in his seat in an Air India flight, ig, and when the flight was taking off, something sticky started dripping onto his shirt from the above luggage compartment. He could not move as the seat belt was on. After he was able to take off the seatbelt, he opened the compartment to find a matka (earthened pot) of Rasgulla (a popular bengali sweet dish that are usually dipped in sugar syrup). Hence, the matka got upside down during the take off and the syrup started dripping. My father asked around to know whose package was it but no one answered. So, he distributed all the rasgullas amongst the passengers. After the flight landed in Mumbai, Mr Palekar approached my father to let him know that it was his package that was somehow kept in the economy class luggage compartment while he was in the business class. However, he really liked the fact that my father did not create a fuss and peacefully distributed them amongst the passengers. Eventually, Mr. Palekar offered him a lead role in an advertisement for a detergent powder in Bengal. He even wrote to my father years after their interaction. Unfortunately, the letter is lost now.

You are absolutely correct. I still watch your old movies. The atmosphere back then was intimate. Now it's different. Movie good or bad the actors only dream is how to the 1000 crore budget.

Amol sir, in my childhood, I used to watch your movies on Doordarshan, and it used to be a feast for us. The beauty of your movies was, purity of the story, with a middle class connect.! Golmaal movie, and the song, 'aane wala pal ' is a cherry on the cake.
