they explained it earlier; the game-breaking bug was that a sheriff misfire would leave the sheriff alive on OTHER people's screens despite them being a ghost on their own screen. So, Slayed was flying around as a ghost able to see everyone's roles and talk to dead people, but all the living people saw him as still alive and could hear him.
