Neuro-typical Jardon not understanding the mind of a Neuro-spicy. Us only being thirsty when we see the bottle is the same reason why we can go the full day without drinking a drop of water and then wonder why we feel ill in the evening.

Yup, this is totally a thing. Unlike neurotypical folks, we can struggle with recognizing and/or remembering our own basic needs, either due to issues with object permanence (if we can't see it, it's hard to remember it exists), executive dysfunction (even when we do remember, it's not always easy or possible to execute right away, which increases the chances we'll forget about said task/need again lol), and/or alexithymia (people with alexithymia have issues recognizing their own emotions, but they may also have difficulties with non-emotional perception, such as telling when they're hot/cold, hungry/thirsty, tired, need to use the bathroom etc). I think most ND people can relate with the experience of forgetting to drink if we're not reminded, or even specifically needing to have a visual reminder, as these are all very common traits of ADHD and/or Autism.

The sheer number of times I'm bitching about being tired and worn out and my wife goes "maybe you should have water" and I think about it and realize how fucking dry my throat is are unfathomable.

Every morning i make 4 bottles to be left around the house so I can make sure I actually see and drink water, or ill go all day without drinking...

I can go a whole day without water or food until I am starving and dried out at night.😂 I also bought a huge-ass water bottle as a reminder

i have to do soda on the low myself, i am income lacking/deprived for anything but the basics... so what i typically do is buy the generic soda 2 liter bottles of cola... then i add ice to my drinking bottle and throw a packet of water flavoring mix in ...maybe some extra water if its too strong. walmart has a cola in my area that sells for a dollar for a 2 liter bottle. and the drink mixes well it depends if you buy the pitcher version or the single serve packets 16.9 oz mix. and if you go generic or brand name with them. its an easy way to customize my cola soda flavor... cherry, strawberry etc etc... peace. ty for giving me the chance to share again.
