I think the reason for why the Imposter gets destroyed so much is pretty clear. As you teleport for the spam kill, it means that you're likely to TP in front of 2 people at once, giving them the chance to report. There will be the rare case where you manage to kill the second one next to you, but the more players are left, the lower the odds you'll actually target them.
