Amorgos - Greece - the most beautiful Greek island?

The very underrated island of Amorgos belongs to the Cyclades. The island with its beautiful beaches and high mountains used as a filming location for Luc Besson's film "Le Grand Blue". When you are there you will know why :)
The incredible Monastery of Hozoviotissa is built in the near vertical falling rock. The towns of Katapola and Aegiali are full with tavernas and cafes. The two mountain villages of Tholaria and Langada are well worth visiting.
The island is very quiet and you will find no mass tourism here.

@@paulludwigvolzing2548 Well you can say for example all Cyclades looks the same but every Cycladic island is different.Mykonos os Syros are in Cyclades, but for me are totally different islands. The sea the architecture are different.

La bellezza di questa isola risiede soprattutto nel fatto che non è stata ancora cementificata e hanno investito ingenti soldi per creare accessi alle calette piu belle rispettando la natura dell ambiente . Non ci sono discoteche e inglesi che bevono . Unico neo ci sono una marea di gatti che però non sono affettuosi come per esempio a sifnos

Well Luc Beson is definetely in complete disagreement with you that's why he chose Amorgos to shoot his film Le Grand Bleu with Zan Reno and Zan Mark Bar which became an instant hit and the BIBLE for all those who are amateurs divers or professional ones or the spearfishing guys or girls.

Why do the Greeks build their churches in the middle of nowhere

Cause the monks and the nuns where number one targets of the pirates in Meditterean and also in fear of the ottomans. In many cases you will notice that the churches or monasteries are build inside a castle that protected them more and it also served as the last refuge point of all the islanders.

Majority of Cyclades are dry islands. Only the north Aegean ones and those in western Greece in Eptanisa are green all the way to coasts. It has got to do with the rainfall which is quite reduced in Cyclades mostly.
