Band master seemed to be sweeter to my ears, a little more high end sparkle

This is the best real life, quality audio, scientific amp comparison demo I’ve seen. Why are the good ones like this in the shadows and the knuckleheads popular?? Keep up the good work

There are some other great channels. Johan Segeborn is fantastic for just hearing good recordings of all kinds of classic gear.

I dig both amps but have always had a soft spot for bandmasters. They are just such a stellar sounding amp for the money. I have silverface reverb and an early blackface and they are stellar

@@a1sausey398 I dig the silverface but my most versatile amp is my port city pearl 50… it’s stellar 👍

Interesting comparison. I think I hear maybe just a hair more brightness in the Bandmaster than the Bassman, which sounds just a hair darker than the Bandmaster to my ears. To me it sounds like the Bassman is accenting the lower mids a little more than the Bandmaster. Both great sounding amps though. Thanks for sharing!

Because I've been around forever, I was able to buy a '68 Bandmaster somewhere around 1980, so I wouldn't have to keep borrowing my brother's amp! 😄 They were dead cheap back then....$225 sticks in my head as the sticker price. I'm not sure if we were even talking about "vintage gear" back then. Mostly, it was just considered OLD. With the Bassman being the Fender amp that EVERYONE knows about, it'd be tempting to think that's because it sounds so much better. I think the Bandmaster really held its own in this comparison!

1:25 3:42 2:33 4:53 Bandmaster has more clarity which sounds better dirty for that SRV chunk but clean the bassman is warmer. For SRV tone the bandmaster makes sense and would probably handle pedals great because of the extra clarity. Even clean stevie had a punchy tone.

That is the same silverface Bandmaster I have ! That was first real amp I bought.
agree bandmaster retains note clarity at all times which is nice dirty but not maybe as warm clean as the bassman

I have a 68 drip edge bandmaster head....been playing for 40 years and have owned dozens and dozens of amps, this bandmaster is my favorite and main amp....followed by my plexi then a ‘72 bassman 100....new amps just don’t have much mojo, parts and components not as good, and generally lack a certain sound dimension and character...the best new amps are copies of the old greats, (fender, Marshall, vox).....they got it right the first time and haven’t been topped

They are brothers. Their design and circuitry is very similar.

Main point : rectifier vs solid state. Bassman is way more percussiv, less muddy than bandmaster in my opinion.

Did you use a pedal for dirty sounds, or is it natural? Thanks in advance!
