I have been using Amped Roots ever since its first inception and i like it most out of all the amp sims i have! I i also have the paid AHM 5050´s from AS, but the Amped Roots keep on being my go to amp sim.

STL Josh Middleton is the best 5150. Feels and plays like the real block letter. Ive had the tsex50 since it came out and tried every block letter sim thats out there and the STL JM is still my fav.

If you use the Reverb pedal and turn the mix to 0 (if you don't want reverb but stereo) you will get stereo too in Amped Plugins.

Nice video! Amped Roots can sound fine with a bit of tweaking. Unfortunately the TSE X50 doesn't seem to be free anymore, it's a demo and has the following restrictions "Some functions are disabled. Occasional silence. Save plugin state"

But even when most of these sims claim to be Stereo they are really just, what Rick Beato calls, Big Mono, right? There's no real discernible difference between the left and right channels, Seems most of the recording advice I get for this stuff is just record in mono, double it and pan it hard.

That's what I do, double tracking, I can definitely hear the differences between right and left speaker due to the imperfections of being double tracked. But it's very convenient to have one amp feeding two guitar takes, to me these doesn't sound big mono, they sound stereo cause they are different takes. Big mono occurs when too many elements of your mix are stereo, you need to have plenty of mono elements spreaded throughout the stereo spectrum, causing contrast with a few stereo elements.

Since two performances are recorded - even if the theme is the same - and it's panned to (hard) left and right, it's technically stereo. However, the term "big mono" (also used by Rick Beato for this specific case) can also be applied to this situation IF the exact same amp/plugin setup is used with the same IR. (This does NOT mean that it is actually mono, because it would be if you copied the same performance to both side.) That's why most professionals almost never use the same IR on both sides and/or minor EQ modifications on the amplifier/plugin are also common, for example the midrange is slightly less/more in the right performance, while the left performance remains the same. It is also common to record the two tracks with two different guitars. (If for some reason someone uses the same IR, there must still be a difference between the two sides beyond the two different performance.)

I also like tight, crunchy distortion - like Mesa Boogie. I like the first two. The third was so-so, TBH. A bit too fuzzy, messy & trebly. The last two, weren't up to the first two IMHO. Of the first & last, I'd take the first. I think, in order: Roots then Heavy - can't beat the price - TSE X50 is okay, BDH is a glorified stomp box - not worth it. Although once you pay, Black Letter is solid, try the first three before you do.
