The clear winner here is…the P-bass! Man, everything here sounds great. As someone hunting for a P50T who also loves the sound of the old flip top, it seems to me that it can be made to sound “close enough” to the real thing. Great comparison…thank you!

B15s was a lot cleaner than I was expecting, especially with volume at noon… How did you decide how to set gain structure on PF-50T? I ask because turning the master all the way up and then controlling volume by using gain is most similar to old tube amps with only volume controls, in terms of gain structure. Great bud as always

I do think it would be interesting to hear the 50T with master dimed and gain as volume control. In theory, the tones should be even closer, but the 50T would be louder. Cheers!

The PF50T is very scooped. Horrible to me. I need much more mids, like the old amp.

I'm with you on there being too much treble compared to the mids I. would pull down the treble. But not sure with the bass, I quite like that full deep bass. And a more powerful amp will tend to that. Like my Vox AC30 has deeper bass than my AC15, even through the same cab. The PF-20T might sound closer on that front. But then there's quite a lot you can do to shape the sound the way you want it on the PF-50T though. Those Baxandall EQs are nice, plus the shelving options. Depends on the cab too, the PF-50T was a better match for the Orange OBC 112. And did sound good with the Ampeg played fingerstyle (still would roll the treble or tone knob down slightly - or a lot if with the pick). But on those more modern cabs like the Eden Nemesis, totally agree that the strong treble of the PF-50T didn't sound pleasant.

@@compucorder64 Man, that Audix d5 is a less than good choice to mic a test with.. SO colored. SOOOOO Scooped. In the room, Neither of those amps sounded like what we are hearing in the tests,.

​@@SHUTUPANDRECORD D6, I think? But, yes, it's a very good point. D6's are extremley coloured. Mainly a kick drum mic that sounds good in heavier styles of music. Huge sub-bass, with some emphases for beater impact. They can sound good on bass for dubbier styles. But , won't give a true representation of the actual sound. I have a PF-20T now, and it sounds fantastic with Warm Audio U47 FET and/or Shure SM7b combined with DI out. Audix D4 gives some useful tones, would prefer to D6.

I suspect the flat point on the PF50T mid knob is somewhere above the centre - the specs in the manual suggest it has a lot more cut available than boost. I don't find mine short of mids, if the knob is at 2 o'clock or higher.

Mic placement between each comparison seemed to affect the sound more than amp v amp.

Mic was at the same place for the same box on both amps. Of course the position changes when box changes, but not the head for the same box.
