As a nurse I’ve always wondered how some medications come in ampules and how they got there!! Thanks for showing me so I don’t have to guess anymore 😆
@KemDIY Жыл бұрын
This makes sense! But I’ve always wondered how do you also fill it with an inert gas while sealing. Like for very reactive substances like Cesium for example.
@yaykruser9 ай бұрын
You have a glas system attached to it, on one side you pull a vacuum on the other you fill in the argon and then the cesium is added. then you seal it.

Thanks for the informative video. I'm going to use ampoules to freeze dry bacteria. I'll use a bunsen burner to close it.

Depends where are you from. I've got mine in Hornbach. But I presume that you can find something similar in any hobby or DIY shop.

Thanks for nice demo. May I know the ampoule made by quartz or silica glass?

What pen cutter are you using? is it a diamond tip? where did you get it from? thanks from fellow scientist
@biosamuray Жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for your question. It was a long time ago when I bought it. But any glass cutting tool will do the job. It doesn’t have to be a diamond pen, which are not that expensive as they sound. Actually, I bought this one at my former institute and for that sound of “diamond” I had to put an inventory number on that silly little thing🤣. Tungsten carbide tools are just fine, too. I’ve seen these things easily under $20.00. Check at traditional online shops (don’t want to do any promotion here).

Very nice demonstration. Helpful. Can you tell me where do you get your ampoules from? And, what about your heat gun? Thanks.
@biosamuray6 жыл бұрын
These ones were an old lab stock so I wasn't able track the producer. I can upload in coming days a video on how to handle recent types of ampoules. Heat gun is a type that can be purchased in hardware stores.

What is the name of sealing tip sealing or pull sealing??

Sorry to ask a rather silly question, can I use the same method to seal a 2ml vial (used for essential oil), I simply don't want the plastic or metal caps onto of it
@biosamuray5 жыл бұрын
Yes, sure. I will soon release another video showing a similar technique with some modifications that should work for any size or type a glass ampoule. Stay tuned... >;o)

Does this method will destroy the heat sensitive materials?
@biosamuray8 жыл бұрын
+Wong Kk No it shouldn't as long as you heat only the top of the ampoule. As you may see in the video, you can hold the rest of the ampoule in your hands.

Do there tips come perfectly smooth and round while doing by without machines
@biosamuray4 жыл бұрын
Depends how you do it. Functionality comes first in my opinion ... but beauty comes right after it. If you use a simple holder with a rotating platform you get the perfection >;oD Machines are expensive and they make sense when you really put them in use - at least hundreds-to-thousands of ampoules per run or you need to seal frequently. Dozens once or twice per month can be handled manually. What do you think?
@adambellinton80534 жыл бұрын
@@biosamuray Can u please elaberate on this. A rotating platform for the ampoule so the flame heats the glass evenly? What do you mean by simple holder?
@biosamuray4 жыл бұрын
@@adambellinton8053 I meant one can print out an adapter with a 3D printer for each ampule size and attach it to a platform with a stepper motor of slow motion motor. It can be kept simple for low-throughput applications.

What if my ampoule cant be exposed to air?
@biosamuray7 жыл бұрын
You can fill ampoule with inert gas heavier than air (e.g. argon), either before filling or after filling with your solution, and then seal it. It will help to protect air-sensitive solutions.
