I ordered two Amsoil oil filters yesterday for my 2020 Toyota Camry . They had been OUT OF STOCK for countless months and maybe even for a year !!! Telling us that we had better order what we wanted . As they could not be certain of continuing supply . Really insulting that they could not drop the charge for shipping , due to the previous facts as NO customer service . And they keep bothering me to pay for another year of " membership " . when mine expires in 7/31/2023 !!!

Hot Tip Peter: IF you spend $500 in the membership year, your next year is FREE membership (and each subsequent year). And they always give birthday gift cards as well as volume gift cards ($5 each card). If you spend over 100 dollars shipping is free. I got 5 motorcycles, 4 cars, and 2 trucks so 500 is easy for me to reach. The first year I got an email from AMSOIL saying that if I spent another $127 before my membership expires, it would renew automatically and for FREE (less than 60 days left on my membership). I use a friends AMSOIL subscription and save more than 30% on all my oils every time I buy them and also you get discounts on Filters and every thing else too. If you would like I can reference you his code to sign up for, or (I considered it up until they told me I had to pay shipping at that level..Dealer Level....I stayed a member) sign up as a dealer for larger discounts + pay incentives BUT you have to pay ALL shipping charges. Haven't actually done the math but shipping aint cheap these days. And please do not hold the fact they want to keep you a member, the call centers are all "REQUIRED" to ask those questions. Kinda like an insurance salesman, annoying but tolerable.

Amsoil can't be beat. Had a 2000 chevy van 3500. Posi rear end that was locking and then not releasing when I went to make a turn. Brand new van so took back to the dealer and they replaced the differential oil and added a factory supplement to the oil for posi rearends. No help so I got Amsoil rearend oil, had them install it and new gasket and on the first turn I just barely felt a click as it released ( at it's worst it sounded like a ballpeen hammer smacking the frame ) and after that one click I never had any problem again. Great stuff.

@@stevedeleon8775thank you for your service. For the average vehicle owner. That uses group 3 liquid natural gas oil base stock a ground oil molecule "full synthetic" absolutely 5 to 6k OCI. For true synthetic oil group 4 PAO MPAO and group 5 Ester you can stretch the OCI to 15 to 25k with Amsoil Signature Series oils and with 2 micron bypass filtration system added some have gone over 100,000 miles with just filter changes and oil analysis yes Amsoil Signature Series is that good. It's hands down the best in the world determined by independent testing all documented. I however do not go past 6000 with out analysis even though with oil and filter I buy from Amsoil says you can safely go 1 year 25000 miles. I did 15000 mile OCI with my 2001 5.2L truck and sold it with 278,000 miles still ran like the day I brought him didn't burn any oil. The Truck was put to rest in 2022 with 392,000 miles because the new owner drove it till it seized up from coolant hose rupture that drained out the coolant and over heated it. Otherwise it would still be on the road today.

The advantage of a large plastic bag with any oil filter is for you to wrap it around the filter after it's been loosened, but before you hand-spin it off. That way you can trap any oil that leaks out for an easier disposal and clean-up. Or...just use a 1-qt ziploc freezer bag!

@c5back9 4 жыл бұрын
Your analysis rightly indicated that the media in the Amsoil filter is different, but I believe in addition to being constructed of a synthetic component, I think it also includes pure cotton. Pure cotton has been proven to be a far better filter media than wood pulp/paper. This is why Amsoil is able to filter to 20 microns when others can’t approach it. Of course the Amsoil media has a screen attached to the back which reduces the surface area of media within the filter, but the screen also promotes better oil flow, and given the better quality of the Amsoil filter media, the end result is a longer lasting filter with better filtering ability and considerably improved flow volume. The only downside is cost, but if you become a regular Amsoil customer, you’ll pay less than the $25 mentioned in this video. BTW... I started using Amsoil products back in the early 1980s when a friend of mine (a brilliant research engineer) became an Amsoil distributor and first introduced me to their products. I am convinced they are superior in many ways - key among these are higher efficiency, longer service life, and the ability to filter smaller contaminants from oil.

The Royal Purple and Amsoil EAK15 have the exact same filter media and wire mesh backer. They are literally identical, just the same as the Fram Endurance filter is also the same as the Amsoil EaO. There is no difference between the two. Champion labs makes them. Mann & Hummel make the Mobil1. But you can get the Fram Endurance for $12.97 which is the same as the Amsoil EaO product line which is the same as the Royal Purple Extended Performance. Mann+Hummel makes the Mobi1, Purolator, WIX XP, Napa etc. One of my vehicles uses the Fram 3614 series, but I use the 3600 which is the equivalent of the EAO34 filter but 1.5" longer with more filter media as my goal, not to have extended drain intervals. I do oil analysis on all virgin oil and used oil from 5000-7500 miles depending on vehicle.
@Balticblue93
@Balticblue93 Жыл бұрын
@@Dfr10534 If I had to make a choice other than Amsoil EAO, Fram Endurance, or Royal Purple Extended performance, I would choose the Purolator Boss. It is far superior to the Bosch filters made in Mexico and china. The Bosch has a cellulose filter media, the gasket is better on the Boss, the filter media is Synthetic not paper, the can and lid is heavier duty on the Purolator boss and has more threads plus a better bypass system. I wouldn't even consider a Bosch which the current competition on the market. Do you know how big the difference between 20 and 25 microns is in size? So, your filter will clog sooner and hit the bypass if you used for extended drain intervals. I would rather have better flow at 25 microns than less at 20. The Synthetic media is far superior and if they rated to 20 microns, how much better could it get? I am not betting my expensive engines on a $3 dollar filter. Extra pleats mean nothing, and I come from the HVAC industry. Filters that choke the system ruin blower motors and choke the airflow of the furnace or air handler. Super high filtering offsets good fluid flow. You use what you want but I would be changing that filter very often, maybe even every 3000 miles which is fine since you trust your engine with a $3 dollar filter. I will stick with what is proven. Champion labs makes a better filter but if you have to choose something else, go with the Purolator Boss.

@@Dfr10534 When did I say Amsoil was bad? I use Amsoil and Fram Endurance filters which are identically built by Champion labs. The guy was saying the Bosch was better and I proved him wrong. There is a filter that goes down to 10 microns, but they clog too fast and open the bypass. Who in the world would need to filter below 20-25 microns with a high-quality oil changed in reasonable mileage 5000-7500 on average? Do you know how small that is? Have you actually ever looked it up? But the highest flow at the best micron rating is the challenge ever filter faces, but I would rather have a Synthetic media that runs 25 microns than a cellulose at 20 microns. That is why we use Amsoil and FE filters. Amsoil EAO and Fram Endurance are the winners. The Purolator Boss is a decently close second, but the Bosch is a piece of garbage. You might as well run a Mobil1 filter in that case. There are several very good filters on the market, but I will keep this on topic.

And the engine may well have been heavily sludged before its last oil change. 3000-5000 oil change intervals will produce more wear metals than longer intervals when analysis is used. The wear metals spike after every oil change. But don't do long intervals with Dino oil or cheap synthetics. That long drains with Amsoil oils will not damage engines has been repeatedly proven in long term tests by Amsoil. From OTR trucks to NYC taxi cabs.

My first contact with Amsoil was in 1981. They were the first to market synthetic oil and to my knowledge they have never sold through any retail stores and for years only sold through their registered dealers. Most of which operated out of their garages and most still do I believe. You can sign up for a membership online to get a preferred price on their products but I don't know how that price compares to the dealers pricing? I do know that filter price of $25 is more like $17 for members. Oil prices are comparable to shelf prices at the auto parts stores for comparable grades. Amsoil is the only company I'm aware of that offers a 15k or 25k guarantee on their oil depending on vehicle service conditions. And does require use of their filters with the oil. I do have a change interval of 15k on my cars and never a problem because of it. I do on occasion send in a sample for analysis to check wear. It's always been spot on. Other than Amsoil filters I personally would only use the Wix XP series filters for synthetic, extended service. But I wouldn't trust any other oil brand to go 15 to 25k. They don't recommend it themselves. If you compare 15k service interval to 7500 or 10k, Amsoil actually comes out the cheaper comparison. But that's my experience and opinion. I would recommend an engine flush (Amsoil does have recommendations for conversion to their oils.) with the oil and then have samples tested at normal changes for peace of mind or to make your own judgements. Tooooo much reading!!!

My guess is like this: The "Best Filter" has the lowest pressure, as measured. In other words, If any filter raises the oil pressure, due to being restrictive, this is very bad. Also, just change your filter at, let's say 4,000 miles, and change the Oil every 8, 000 miles. This is an example. Restrictive increases in back pressure are never good....Also, if you operate in the dusty Southwest, versus the rainy northeast, take this into Account!!!! Great video, very Objective!!!!

Same thing that I consider for K&N filters. If they are like their air filters, they are low restriction, yet allow dirt to pass through. If they are great at filtering, they have restrictions and go into bypass when the oil is cold. I would NEVER use their air filters. I think paper filters are much better. If you change your oil regularly, allowing large particles to pass and being low restriction is likely the best for an oil filter. Early 50s engines did not even come with oil filters. Just do frequent changes.

@@michaelprice3785 Dear Michael! great minds think alike! here is more of my thinking: picture vehicle east of c springs colorado. you r gonna climb, big time., under load, into the rockies..big time real inclines. Best for any engine is full-flow of oil to all parts, with least "Restriction." Don't obsess on particle size. Removal of Heat by the Oil is the key.....Especialy with -0- foaming! Foaming is very bad. by example, a $6.00 toyota Factory filter, in your lexus V-8, was designed to flow correctly, with minimal restrictions to the flow of oil...Making the engine pump harder to guarantee small micron filtering, makes little sense. Amsoil does advertise that their filters have very low restriction to oil flow. So i say, in a lexus/Toyota v-8, use Amsoil Oil and either the $6.00 Factory filter, or an Amsoil Filter, which costs more, and i am sure it is Most Excellent. I quit on Mobil filters....too restrictive to me....Of course, real testing would prove a lot.....Under long steady load at 90mph, the oil must remove heat, as it flows. the more flow, the better and safer, to me. Best regards to you!

We all know that these filters are really not super-expensive with exotic media....(I guess). Change these filters, use Specified Oil, and, WOWOW, their motors can do 500,000 miles + + +....Like I said, change filter in a vehicle after 4-5,000 miles.....change Oil every other change....use Amsoil if you have $$$s to spend....and just don't worry about it.....AOC is gonna take all our cars/trucks anyway, after she takes over in 2024. The cute girls somehow manage to get their hands on everything, given enough time!!! Thanks for your Observations! I use Fram Ultra almost exclusively. And I am an Amsoil guy. Here's why: Yes the actual metal can on some Fram Ultra's are thinner and less heavy duty than Amsoil or Mobil1 or Royal Purple, but the capacity and efficiency is right up there with Amsoil and Royal Purple oil filters. Mobil1 filters are a synthetic blend media rated at 30 micron, while Amsoil, Royal Purple, and Fram Ultra are all full syn media, and both 20 micron. With the Fram Ultra at about half their price on many common part numbers, and still rated for 20k miles or 1 year, it's a no brainer for me, and in stock at Walmart and Amazon is super convenient. Now I don't even stock cheap filters. With dozens of extended oil changes per year, Fram Ultra is our best overall oil filter for the money. Efficiency, capacity, convenience, and price. Amsoil and Royal Purple have a very heavy metal can, so if you go off-road, that may be a benefit to ya.

I like to change my oil filter every 2500 miles and change oil every 5000 miles, as filtration is the most important for engine longevity. I look for the smallest filtration capability - i.e., 5 microns vs 25 microns. The oil doesn't break down enough to warrant more frequent changes, but the filter is the expendable factor in keeping your engine oil effective. If I feel I've been in dustier conditions than normal, I'll change filters more often. Always nice to see, first hand, what's what.

Well I guess I shouldn't say but hey I had a Dodge straight 6 that leaked oil out 25 miles away from home. Oil was generic valvoline. I drove 4 or 5 miles to a gas station I bought the last quart of 30w old empire and 2 things of motor honey. Made it home changed oil pan put synthetic oil in and I cant remember what brand. It ran really good for about 3000 miles and locked up. Put 318 motor out of junk yard and sold it.

Project Farm did a video on AMSOIL itself, the actual synthetic oil itself, and said it is the absolute highest quality oil you can purchase commercially BUT his testing methods are his own and some people don’t necessarily agree with those methods, but because of his videos, I will only be putting AMSOIL in all of my cars from now on.

Great video! AMSOIL does make outstanding products, from its oil to its additives, to its filters. I use it in my 3/4 ton diesel truck because I want to keep it 10 years. What I’m wondering about is the TCO? Is it value compared to other high quality products you can get at big box stores quickly at a significantly lower price? Do I have to have a vehicle for n miles to begin to make a physical difference between oils/filters? If I won’t ever have a vehicle for 250,000 miles, why use AMSOil?

The AMSOil site makes a lot more sense when you are a Preferred customer, which in turn makes more sense when you buy a lot of lubricants. Also, if you are ordering oil as well, you're going to get to the $49 point, where shipping becomes free. Also, they'll sell you standard Wix filters if they don't have their own filter in your size, or don't have one in stock. I get motor oil, brake fluid, grease, etc. from them... I'm kinda a fanboy, but it's also good stuff, the oil and other chemical products are produced in Wisconsin, and it really does perform better.

I've watched these comparison videos on KZbin for a few years now, I've always run whatever comes with the oil and oil filter combo deal that's on sale. I've never had any problems with any oil filter I've ever run, I've got 250,000 miles on my Xterra right now so I don't see the problem with any of them. I think as long as you do regular oil changes and maintenance you'll be fine with whatever brand you want to use...

pretty much most name brand filters and oil are all top notch. They KEY is FOLLOW MAINTENANCE! So many people neglect it. Highway cars can easily do 10k to 20k oil changes. Cause they rack up miles quick but drive steady which is easy on an engine. City driving is the killer.

There’s a lot of factors that can go into it and a lot of people like a simple approach. Of course you can get away with using the cheapest oil as long as you change it often, but then that “cheap” oil is costing you more in the long run because you’re buying more of it MORE often, plus filters..plus the time it takes to get down under there and then go recycle it. I used the Signature Series and ran 20k miles in a year, did an oil analysis and it still had plenty of life left! So I know for the rest of that car’s life I can change the oil once a year and have that peace of mind that it’ll be ok. I realize that type of approach isn’t for everybody and most people are still haunted by the old “every 3k miles” myth. There’s many benefits to using a synthetic oil, so to anyone reading this I would say to at least use a synthetic oil and do an analysis or 2 to find your optimized baseline of when you should change your oil. These days, a jug of synthetic is just a few bucks more than conventional at your local Walmart and heck even Amazon has a decent synthetic for cheap! If you plan on keeping your car for a long time I would look into using something like Amsoil. Just my $.02

I don't know if they still stayed it. But Amsoil always stated that the best oil filters that they ever tested were always the Purolator especially the Purolator boss oil filter. I remember for awhile you could actually buy them at Meijer. Had they were great they were pricey, but you could use much cheaper oil. And because at least a percentage of it always got filtered every time it went through the oil filter. The Purolator boss oil filter was one of the two best oil filters I ever used. The best one I ever used was the hard driver oil filter, that Mobil 1 purchased and converted into one of their own. The hard driver oil filter when I put it on my vehicle, I would change the oil when it started to look dirty. And that was at 9800 miles. So I was easily able to do Ten Thousand Mile oil changes with this oil filter. The oil seal was round, it was not square cut. Mobile one got it, when I put a Mobil 1 oil filter on my vehicle it started getting dirty at about 4802 5400 miles, still a very good oil filter. But not nearly as good as the hard driver. The purolatorboss was pretty much the same. But it was a different engine and I was getting about 7500 Mi before the oil started to change color visibly, and by 10,000 miles then it was still not as dirty as other types of oil filters.

Good work. Best oil filter video I've seen yet. Still sticking with OEM filters and high quality oil. I like to use AMSOIL, Royal Purp, or Motul depending on the machine. In the past I've used high end oil filters. I change my oil every 5k-7.5K depending on the machine. I don't see the need for high capacity in my filters. Im more concerned with maintaining the proper flow rate, and the OEM filters do just that.

As u stated, u can find local dealers through their website. I didn't have to. I live in a small town and there is a quick lube place in town as well as a repair shop that carry amsoil products. There is another I've seen at another shop about 15 mi up the road as well. They all carry Mobil 1, penzoil and other brands as well. There is also a guy that is an exclusive amsoil dealer from his home. He carries more than either shop too. Very knowledgeable about the products and competition. I am now a preferred customer and get the 25% discount on everything and I can pickup as soon as I need it. Don't have to wait for shipping. Discount makes price about $10/qt which is what u will pay for the brand names at any auto parts store or lube shop. Royal purple, Mobil 1 and the new Havoline cost even more. Havoline is $12/qt. The price I quoted for amsoil is the signature series, their best stuff. They offer two other grades of synthetic that cost less, but the signature series is rated for up to 25k. I don't go that long, but on one vehicle I did double the interval to 10k and it's actually saving me money and I'm getting pretty much best motor oil available. Saving money because I'm doubling the interval. Before anyone says anything, I've had the oil analysis done and they said it's fine at 10k and can keep going. It is rated for 25k with amsoil filter. Anyway , my point is , u can find a local dealer around u quite easily without much effort. I did and I live in bumfuk, lol.

@@Bacnow well done, you did your research! Most people think mobil one was the first synthetic, which it wasn't. Amsoil is the first 100% synthetic available for automotive use (It is not disputed). Mobile didn't make a synthetic based oil until 2 years after Amsoil, and they pulled it off the shelf in less than 6 months because of engine failures. It used the same group IV PAO base as Amsoil although it was a different grade, so it was synthetic, but then went back to a group III petroleum base, and has been ever since! Beware of the "full synthetic" wording, it just means it's a group III petroleum base, and can only be called synthetic because a judge said so, pretty sad to rely on a judge that also knows nothing about how oil is made.

In my opinion these are all great filters. Using any one of these higher end filters is going to be just fine. The best solution at that point is just to buy matching brand oils to filters. Majority of the companies filter tests are going to be done with their own personal oil so they sort-of design THEIR filter to do best with THEIR oil.
