Nice video! I have been in Amsterdam airport in 2022 after many years...going to and fro to India from Brussels. On the way back I had 6 hours to spend there. I left my backpak in the luggage storage for 5 Euro, explored the airport walking around a bit, and window shopping, eating lunch there before boarding flight back to Brussels

We have a 4 hour layover. Is it worth it to pay for the Aspire lounge, which is now open to all for a fee (not just British Airways passengers) if we also have to go to Passport Control? Also, how would I know if I have to go to passport control or not?

I'm going in April and I have 6 hours until I check into my hotel. I was debating about taking a train to Amsterdam for a few hours and then return to the airport to pick up my rental. Looks like I may stay at the airport and look around instead. 😁

We have done it both ways. Staying at the airport and heading into town for a few hours. If you enjoy airports, Schiphol is a great option! This includes both the area before and after security. Wishing you safe travels in April

It is a great airport for long layovers. There is a lot to discover and even when it’s crowded, you can find some empty nook or corner to relax and pass time

It’s just about enough. Our guidance is to head over to the gate right away. We got pulled at passport control which delayed our process. We also noted that they were expediting folks with shorter layover at passport control. We think you should be fine as long as you brisk walk to the departure gate

Hi, that is a very long layover and you most definitely can plan a nice trip into city. As for Lounge access, we would call the Airline to find which lounge you can access and then check if the lounge is open during your stay. Hi @darinah6162, The best place to find updates about Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is their app with latest information (www.schiphol.nl/en/download-the-schiphol-app). There are multiple play areas for kids including a playground next to McDonalds that has an airplane model with slide. We also saw the assistance cars running and believe they are free. Have a safe and fun journey with the kids.

We used our priority pass to access the lounge. You may want to download the Schiphol app which will tell you the latest info on lounge timings. With priority pass, we have 3 free entry and we paid $27 for the 4th person. Without priority pass, prices vary by lounge

We have US passports so no, we didn’t need any transit visa to leave the airport for the night. It depends on your nationality so you may want to check the official site for accurate information

The lounge is free with Priority Pass membership. We get ours with our credit card. So technically the lounge is not free not unless you have a Priority Pass card

There are a lot of relaxing areas but based on our experience there are even more people at times so the almost relaxing chairs like the one in our thumbnail are high commodity and goes quick. The trick is to locate some and hang out close by as people do love around and there is always an opening. 14 hours is alot of time so you may want to Google some of the cool things you can do close or even do a trip into Amsterdam and see the canals.

There are no COVID restrictions for entering Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport but check the App to make sure as things are changing again esp. in New York. I am not sure about your final destination, Israel, but you can check with your airline. We were traveling to Spain and although there are requirements for Spain, we were not checked for vaccination or testing at all

Good question. We used credit cards everywhere so didn’t need to convert. There are currency exchange there. From our experience Euro is the only currency accepted

Hi @elmj9733, I am sure you will have a great time at Amsterdam Airport. Depending on your departure gate for Israel, you may not need to leave the International gates at all. For us, we didn’t encounter any long lines or trouble on our way back from Spain thru Amsterdam to New York. As for spending time at the airport, there are tons to do if one is in the mood to explore including a viewing deck, a museum, Ron’s of shopping and eating or just lounging around. It does get crowded but there are always empty areas of you walk around the gates. I would highly recommend to download Schiphol Airport App which was the best thing we did for navigation and latest airport information

Hi @OverflowCafe, not sure. We did try the bathroom right in the center of the terminal (gate side) and the ones in the Aspire Lounge and honestly the bathroom next to the shops was better than one in the Aspire lounge. The only bathroom experience that was lacking was before you check in (outside security).

Hi, thank you for your comment/question. You can always walk in to certain lounges and pay on the spot but you may want to check their timing. The lounges open 7 or 8 and closes at 10pm. Based on our stay, it is totally possible to stay there without a lounge since they have many spots for you to lay down, look at planes, visit a museum, shop and eat. For us, I think 7 hours (although long) can be fun at Schiphol. You can also go out and head into downtown which we have done before as well. The trains are conveniently located in the terminal (just have to go through immigration). We enjoy airports and Schiphol is a great layover airport. Come back and let us know your experience.
