Love poffertjes! Where I grew up, there was a Dutch family selling poffertjes at our local christmas market. Now, 30-odd years later, that same family has expanded their poffertjes business and has little stalls all over the place in northern Germany, on christmas markets, spring fairs, festivals, you name it.

The large pancake you had is identical to the British pancakes we have on Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) we traditionally squeeze lemon and sprinkle sugar on them, there are still a few towns and villages across Britain that hold pancake races where you have to run while flipping the pancake in a frying pan

Oh, man alive! The Flying Pig, that brings back memories. One of my favourite hostels traveling in the mid nineties. Back then, booking hostels was not the done thing on the backpacking trail and the Pig was always busy. Would try to get a night train into Amsterdam, arrived very early and chill (ie catch up on sleep I invariably didn't get on the train) in Vondlepark until reception opened. Good times.
@Theendlessadventure7 жыл бұрын
That's amazing! Those memories sound awesome now, but I imagine night trains and sleeping in parks wasn't exactly exciting in person 😂

If you guys go to Berlin. I suggest checking out schneers schnitzel right by the wall on washauer strasse as a great and cheap place to eat in the afternoon also burgermeister over the bridge in kruezberg is a quirky little burger joint in a former public toilet . Mutti as a place for an evening meal (traditional german fare and such a fantastic owner. Gorlitzer park as a hang out to drink a beer. And finally if you fancy some alternative nightlife tresor,berghain (entry difficult) about blank ,suicide circus, greissmulhle and urban spree as some excellent examples. Berlin is all about the nightlife and is a huge part of the whole city experience

@Widdekuu916 жыл бұрын
Bacon officially is saltier then spek though. Bacon has a lot of added salt. And in The Netherlands, bacon is way more expensive, because of the 'image.' The popularity of the word 'bacon' flew over from America and now they charge 3 times more for a package that says 'bacon.' If you buy Zoute Spek, it's just as salty as bacon. But 3 times cheaper.

I would have gone even shorter with the hair. I'm in the follically-challenged set today. But, back in the day, when I had hair. I'd always get it cut really short prior to a trip. Buzzed back and sides. And the top just a bit longer than a flattop. This still looked stylish. But was much easier to maintain.

@johannessugito16865 жыл бұрын
What kind of sausage you are thinking of? All sausages are from meat, except the vegetarian sausages. What she ate is osseworst, ox sausage. It is raw and pure ox meat. Yes, in The Netherlands we eat raw ox meat and raw ground beef. I am surprised Allison did not comment on the raw ox sausage because most Americans are horrified when they know it is raw beef. While back home they order their steak rare, hahaha.

@Theendlessadventure7 жыл бұрын
So happy they were helpful! We've only ever traveled together, so a private room is definitely the best situation, so we usually stay in Airbnbs. Hostels can be great for solo travel though if you don't mind sharing a room and are wanting to meet people. We've met so many cool people during our hostel stays!

All the public areas should be "no smoking" except for a dedicated area for smokers, the "smoking room". This is the same for cafes, restaurants, offices, etc. Sometimes there is no "smoking room" and you'll have to go outside on the street to smoke.
