I love the piece at 18:00 - not often the smallest instrument in a consort is an alto! - it's like a dawn chorus of happy little birds in the trees.

They were all male persons. Today almost all recorder players are female. How is it possible?
@honeychurchgipsy6
@honeychurchgipsy6 6 жыл бұрын
Gerard van Reenan - there are plenty of great male recorder artists today: Jorge Isaac, Erik Bosgraaf, David Bellugi, Sebastien Marq, and Dan Laurin to name but a few. It might seem like they are 'all' women compared to a time when they were practically all men - it's just a conceptual problem human brains seem to suffer with. For example, I grew up when the world of comedy was dominated by men - you almost never saw a female comic on a panel show/quiz show. Nowadays when I see a panel of four - with three - or even four female comics - it feels weird even to me - as a woman - but - it never ever felt weird that they were all men in the past - that was just 'normal' to me. It just shows us that, even when we think we are free from these little prejudices/biases we aren't!!

@@honeychurchgipsy6 I agree with you. If allow me, I'd like to mention Horacio Franco from Mexico.

@@ErnestoValt - yes of course - how could I forget him? Have you heard of a British player who does a lot of Baroque stuff but, like Franco, makes it fun and exciting - his name is Piers Adams and his ensemble is Red priest? I had the privilege of hearing him play a world premier of a concerto written for him by Crispin Ward last year - and as a surprise extra he played the Sammartini recorder concerto (probably my favourite).
