It's not often I get to do a short news video, but when it's about VESPERTINO - the most hotly anticipated new Amstrad game, of course I'll be on the case! And after waiting over 3 very long years, at last the first new footage of the game running has emerged! Unfortunately due to a little bit of drama in the scene ironically (with Batman Group being forced to produce this) it's resulted in us being able to see more than a few seconds of stable footage of the game! You can see it being assembled live in the WinApe emulator which may quieten a few doubters! Plus we can happily end the video on some really exciting news.......!! 😍

Absolutely, thank you Batman Group - as they say this is NOT an 'official' video update. This footage was just shot to disprove a hoax and to prove that the game was real in a Twitter argument to someone who was acting.... shall we say... very rude to them if we are being kind here. It is very unfortunate that this is the circumstances in which we get to see some new footage, but the key thing you get to see in the video for the weird minority that seem to think the original trailer is a hoax is that you can see the game being assembled live (being filmed from their mobile phone) in the WinApe emulator. No tricks or edits. The game exists and it is real. Although I'm sure, and it still looks like it doesn't satisfy everyone sadly, and to that I can only say that the Batman Group have already proved themselves at least on the Amstrad scene with their Pinball Dreams game and Batman Forever demo - and that is more than enough for anyone who knows their Amstrad stuff. Certainly for me. And I thank them for that and I will patiently wait, as I have done, for when they are ready. Thank you Batman Group.

Was just looking up some of the drama. This Danybunchofnumbers seems extremely immature and kinda weird. Seems to be a schoolyard type of C64 fanboy type. I had hoped those kinds of fanboys for any 8 bit system might have grown up by now.

I'm a C64 fanboy at heart and never owned an Amstrad, but I'm very interested in this game and if it's a commercial release I'll buy a download version to play in an Amstrad emulator because it indeed looks like it's going to be an ace racer worth playing. Pinball Dreams was ace and this is going to do exactly the same for 8 bits racers. Why all the fanboys still have to talk bullshit nowdays baffles me, I enjoy what every system has to offer now. Bring it on.

This looks great, and hopefully won't be too much longer before it's released. I guess it won't run on an unmodded GX4000 tho, since it requires 128K of RAM. Unless there's some funky use of the memory in the cartridge. Anyway, will be interesting to see and play it.

It is sadly ironic, it's not the way Batman Group wished to do things. I think we as an Amstrad community were happy being patient - they had nothing to prove to us after Pinball Dreams - and we have enough good games to go on from Toki, CPCRetroDev just now, Alcon2020 earlier this year, and more coming soon etc to keep us happy. Let them do their thing and we will wait. And we will continue to wait until they are ready.

@@mattmyers9351 Where did they say it was for the Plus? It's using the regular old Amstrad CPC palette and not any of the Amiga-like palette the Plus has.

@@thelaststraw1987 Yeah. Pinball Dreams and Batman Forever Demo were both for CPC 6128 (or equivalent) and that seems to be their favourite choice of Amstrad. I don't believe Batman Group cares much about the Amstrad Plus machines. Those systems go against their goal of showcasing what the original mid-80s CPC's were capable of in skilled hands. :)

Seems at least several people think it's some kind of fakery even though Batman Group have proven themselves in the past to have impressive CPC coding and graphic skills. These people do get super defensive and weird when you ask them to elaborate or provide evidence though. Kinda like a Trump fan and the supposedly 'stolen' 2020 election. If this turns out to be a big hoax then ok cool I was fooled, but I give Batman Group the benefit of the doubt because of their work on Pinball Dreams CPC and the Batman Forever demo. It does look very impressive for a CPC. Hope it stays that way when more gameplay elements are added (such as the opponents obviously). :)

I felt the same way when I watched the original footage that Batman Group posted, but seeing this latest footage of it being developed in WinAPE has helped to convince me that _Vespertino_ is real - although there's still no guarantee that it will actually be released...

The Z80 does not get hotter or cooler depending on the software it runs. That only happens on modern processors with low power states that can be entered when there's nothing useful to run. On the Z80 when you don't have anything useful to do, you run a loop.

Here's my prediction. Vespertino will be officially launched as one of the included games on Retro Games Amstrad Mini, which will launch at the end of 2023. Now that would be one heck of a way to bring the game and the Amstrad Mini to the market. Of course, I don't have a clue if Retro Games will be making an Amstrad Mini or not - although they are due to make an announcement about their latest device in the next few weeks -- but I suspect they will do eventually. Right, I'll stop dreaming now...

From what I remember this is designed for the CPC 6128. Or machines with 128K of RAM, so maybe your 464 might be able to run it with a disk drive and RAM expansion, but it's too early to know just yet.

@@Xyphoe I hope it's compatible with 464 + RAM expansion, as I have a Dk'Tronics 64k RAM expansion on my 464. Pinball Dreams works with that config. However, graphically, this looks more like it would need the CPC Plus range - it looks a bit too good for standard CPC Mode 0

So many times growing up my mind got blown by awesome scene demos while thinking "wish the games looked like that" .. Never knew those Batman Demo legends were tinkering away at *EXACTLY* that feeling turned into an actual game 🥰 somehow a cpc running this, and stuff like the c64 actually handling sonic today makes me nostalgically giddy!

Have you played Batman Group's CPC port of Pinball Dreams? It's pretty stunning for an 8 bit port. There's a video out there comparing it side by side with the Amiga original and it's does pretty well considering the limitations of an 8 bit compared to a 16 bit.

Their systems have had some fantastic games in recent years - the Spectrum scene especially from the Zosya team, the C64 had that stunning Sonic port that stands out for me and of course many others. The Amstrad scene has of course had many great games but not as prolific I suppose, but this will be definitely one to wow the whole retro scene.

@@Xyphoe True, absolutely. I go with Yellow Belly's attitude - 'It's always the computer you grew up with that is the BEST!' Flimbo's Quest on the C64 is the best, Turbo Outrun was good , too. Drift by Zosya, awesome as is Travel Through time! I have several C64s and speccy's , too. I support as many Retro computers as I can with my Retropads etc. It's more a comment about silly Fanboy / Fangirl - izm than anything else. Yes, BG commented that this will definitely set it aside as the best 8 bit micro...will wait and see.

Because something recorded using a 'screen recorder' is less easy to fake? What's the time stamp of the 'pulsates'? I'm not sure what part you're referring to. Also are you familiar with their previous work on the CPC? They absolutely know how to do impressive things with the hardware. It's not some bunch of unknowns popped out of nowhere claiming to do magic. They are a group with a solid reputation and the work to back it up.

The developer threw it up as a quick demo on Twitter to shut up the troll, there's a link to the Twitter thread in the description :) Also a link to the 'AmigaWave' stream from over 3 years ago showing the development tools and more footage. I also have it on good authority from reliable people I know involved with the project it's very advanced in development.

@@darrenwilson99 Well, the car is purposely being driven slower maybe to show off the smoothness of even when going slow (the speedometer on the top right shows that). It's a lot easier to make something seem smooth when it's moving so fast.
