AMT 1968 Plymouth Road Runner 426 Hemi Build

This is an AMT 1968 Plymouth Road Runner with the 426 Hemi. This was issued in 1989 and I rebuilt my original build into this build in the mid 2000s. It's weird to think, that was almost 20 years ago.

Thank you for showing your '68 Road Runner. You always seem to choose the right/best color on all your builds. I have the Monogram '70 R.R. with a terrible side stripe 'bird'! Lots of research to do on this one with its wheels, etc... Really like your work & info. Thanks again.

A beautiful clean build. A nice history to go along with it. I've just started mine, a new kit. They have a nice decal set now, not a lot of flash. Redline tires. I'm going to try some Mission Models paint on it.

I've got an unbuilt '68, and just bought a Revell '70 Road Runner. You have me thinking this blue for the '68, and either panther pink or yellow for the '70, to display together. Although I lived through the era of these cars, I wasn't zoned in on Road Runner / GTX details back then. (Mustangs were more my thing) I appreciate the content details you include in your videos.

I guess I can agree on the colors! I have two built 70 Roadrunners. One is Pink and the other in purple. Also did a 70 GTX in yellow and another 70 GTX in blue.

I built a Roadrunner this year. When I was done looking at it I realized how big that car is.

I just completed the newest version of this kit. It went together easily but the tail lights are disappointing and the wrong air cleaner is provided. (it's the longer, oval-shaped piece you might see on an A12 car)

What do you think about 516 heads

I don’t really have an opinion on them. I understand that they were common on a lot of 383s and are small valve closed chamber heads. My parts wagon 70 383 might even have them but I have no plans for that motor and it is just sitting. I have used a set of 906 heads and had stainless valves, hardened seats and bronze guides put in many years ago. Those heads eventually cracked but by then the aluminum Stealth heads were available and cheaper than what I put into those 906s. I bought a set and used them for many years. I still have them and had them freshened up. But now bought a set of Trick Flow 240s for my stroker 512 that will be going into my wagon. So for original numbers matching cars I think that is cool. On a driver that you may want more performance on a budget. It’s hard to beet the Stealth heads for the price and they can be painted and will look stock. On a higher performance build you just can’t beat the aftermarket offerings.

Great kit, BUT... Those 1/4 panels are way off. I take the guts of the AMT kit and transfer them to a Johan body. It just drives me nuts when I look at those 1/4s.

The new new one they re-realeased has all the roadrunner decals but still has the incorrect air cleaner so I stole my spare chrome dome air cleaner from my 67 GTX kit because I used the race air cleaner on it Now if they’ll come back out with a A12 Roadrunner Edit: I haven’t started my 68 roadrunner kit yet currently in the middle of my Monogram A12 69 Super Bee, Revell 70 Roadrunner, and MPC country boy charger that’s going to be a dirty marry crazy Larry car I stole my spare 440 automatic from my revell 68 Dart kit
