From the sounds of it, the F40 was pushing both trains...sounded like the P42s were just idling in HEP mode.

Whoa, nice catch. My only claim to unusual consist as a foamer is catching Amtrak operating in winter using a Full Metra consist F40PH and six coaches due to equipment failure.

I agree that the motive power was coming from the rear although I don't that all Amtrak cars were equipped with cabling to allow push pull operation

The Metra locomotive sounded like it wasn't running properly (low power?). Maybe Amtrak was the power-on-point & Metra was just HEP for its own part of the consist. Just a guess...

Rescue train......the BN commuter was pushing the Amtrak. We have even pushed Commuter trains with Freight trains.

The BN Commuter train, working for Metra, was pushing the Amtrak Equipment back into Chicago.
