I have traveled on the Acela several times and for me, first class is worth the extra cost. The train has reserved seating, and you are able to change the assigned seat after purchasing your ticket (subject to seat availability). The meals are decent and the crews do a great job!

Definitely, the Moynihan Hall is on my Amtrak Bucket List, and I have friends in NYC so there's an incentive to go. Very cool to see the high speed views, though I'm sure you need to FEEL it to really appreciate it...that's about twice as fast as I've ever gone aboard a train! On the other hand, while I can see where that kind of speed would be a selling point in that part of the country, I'm more into the regular speeds for my train trips. Thanks for another great video!

Amtrak Acela (Express) is my favorite train since 2002. Before that year, I enjoyed the Metroliner. I had my first ride and the best train at 7:00 a.m. It made only six (6) station stops between New York and Washington. I would ride on the last Thursday of November from New York to Washington by express, just to visit the Washington Metrorail. Thursday is my favorite day of the week. I may need to ride Acela to Boston so I can visit the Boston subway. I am a rail fan and a subway buff.

Acela, business class, the quiet car. My idea of heaven!! I actually witnessed a conductor shut down a person talking on their phone; she wanted to make an issue out if it but he firmly and politely gave her her options. She left to make her phone call and we all breathed a sigh. Quiet Car, best amtrak amenity ever...well, almost ever.

Way back in 1955, the NY, NH & H had an express train from Grand Central to Boston South Station, the "Advance Merchants Limited". After leaving Grand Central, there were no stops until Route 128 outside of Boston. The scheduled time was to depart GCT at 4:45 pm, and arrive at South Station at 8:40 pm, for a transit time of 3 hours, 55 minutes. Today, the fastest Acela from NY Penn to Boston South Station is train 2166, which leaves NYP at 4 pm and arrives at South Station at 7:40 pm, a transit time of 3 hours, 40 minutes. So, in 66 years, the improvement in time is 15 minutes. Of course the Acela makes some stops between New York and Boston, but the old New Haven train had to do an engine change from electric to diesel in New Haven.
@saulschlapik68183 жыл бұрын
In 1970, the United Aircraft Turbo Train took 3:44 from NY to Boston, the year before Amtrak. This was over the BANKRUPT Penn Central! So now the fastest time is a whopping 4 minutes better than the pre-Amtrak best. But don't worry, I'm sure they have a terrific excuse.

Looking forward to experiencing the "1st Class" NYPenn experience (from a 7-year NJ Transit commuter who has been to and thru NYPenn 1,000's of times). Have read some amazing things about the Metropolitan Lounge and anything is better than the rat maze that is the old/current NYPenn/NJT/LIRR station. FWIW, the "Moynihan Hall" is a very expensive re-do of the old US Post Office that is 1/2 mile WEST of the original NYPenn Station -- that's why there's such a long walk up to the trains. Also, I have taken the "regular" AmTrak as well as the Acela dozens of times between Newark Penn (I live in NJ and there are great tactical reason to board in Newark) and Boston. The non-Acela goes a bit slower, stops in more places and can be a little to a lot less expensive. One more thing, you all got off in Back Bay Station, which is generally better located for hotels and attractions within Boston. The next/last stop (which is also considered "Boston" for ticketing, etc.) is South Station which more architecturally impressive and because of the adjacent bus terminal, has great transportation connections to many locations in NH and ME.

I liked the video. It's so sad there are no other routes in the U.S. this fast, but I think Amtrak owns the tracks between DC & Boston. When plane travel & cars became affordable, trains became more of a novelty mode of travel. The Acela is Amtrak's cash cow at 150MPH carrying thousands of business commuters & tourists from downtown DC to NYC in a few hours. Our country is too vast and I don't see a cross country high speed rail system like this in my lifetime. Speed on rails comes at a huge cost.

Hoping the tickets will be cheaper. It will be my first long distance train trip. Generally r the fares cheaper than air fare?
@death2pc3 жыл бұрын
The lowest cost RT train will roughly cost you one half to that of the airlines lowest RT fare, or approximately $150. to $300. before taxes. But, factor, if it is important to you, 18 hours by train one way versus 2 hrs. per flight and this speaks only to a seat on the train, no room/pullman. There still is a great deal to be said for trains which I grew up on between the former USA (now the NWO Leftist ) USSA and Europe. If you go to D.C., show you care and bring "president" Biden some more Adderall and Depends. Heil NWO! ps: Enjoying the massive increase in retail and energy prices a la Biden & Co. which, the former, significantly impacted your purchasing power, the latter, impacted the transportation industry and your jalopy...........?
