New Siemens locomotive ACS-64 #601 for Amtrak. Acceleration to 125mph with 8 Amfleet coaches.

The acceleration is beautiful, and the cab is quite nicely insulated. However, we would all love to hear the exterior motor sounds from 0 to 125 as well XD. Amazing video, definitely one of a kind for an American locomotive.

I've been to the test track. And that unit, 601, was involved in a derailment in Philadelphia in 2015, and will be used as a parts unit for others as it was damaged beyond repair.

106 mph at 2:10, that's what the displays would've looked like on this same exact locomotive during the derailment at Philly.

I'm hoping that you were able to recreate this video on the SC-44. I'd love to see / hear that locomotive in action like this.

I can assure you, we are running in Pueblo with the same tractive effort vs. speed curve as later on the NEC.

What a nice locomotive, I sure hope it doesn’t get involved in a derailment on the 8th of May, 2015

That derailment was may 12th and the locomotive was involved

To be clear, acceleration on the Acelas are electronically limited to protect the power supply system from being overtaxed. At this point, there is no such limitation on the ACS locomotives.
@FanRailer11 жыл бұрын
Oh yea, I know. The "limitation" that I speak of only applies to the Bombardier Acela HSTs. But speaking of the TE vs. speed curve for the ACS loco, there has yet to be a publicly released TE vs. speed graph, in addition to a published "continuous effort @ xx speed" number. We would very much appreciate to have those.
@FanRailer11 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing on the "no limitations" for the ACS locos, considering that they're not in service yet, so they have yet to be put in situations where the power system would be overtaxed at maximum throttle, but as for the Acelas, there are plenty of Amtrak engineers that run the sets daily that can attest to the power draw limitation.
@pootispiker286627 күн бұрын
The AC64 can draw 6.4MW, but at continuous full throttle that gets cut back to 5MW.

I like the ACS-64, from my non real, but realistic TSW4 perspective its a wonderful loco.

Ignoring safety how fast could this thing actually go? Looks like 135 wouldn't even be breaking a sweat.

In Germany it was tested with a predecessor locomotive of the Vectron on which the ACS-64 is based on. With all the electronic limiters taken off, it went 357 kph / 222 mph, and set a new world record for electric locomotives.
@pearlyhumbucker90656 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but that isnt quite correct. The World record locomotive was a "Taurus" or SIEMENS ES64U4, not a Vectron. They both have the same predecessor - the Siemens ES64 EuroSprinter - but arent the same locomotive. But anyway - they are closely related. ;)

125 mph isn't even trying for these units. They would pull forever if you left the hammer down with no governing or software restrictions. It sucks that this is the same unit that was involved in the Philly wreck.

I herd about it too. At least the engineer survived Sadly under seven people got killed. And 601 looks like it's unrepairable. poor 601 (And the passengers). But hey look on the positive side. 642 has a surprise!
@ImpyLane9 жыл бұрын
+Corey Williams wow that was quite the foamer thing to say.. "poor 601"? really kid? equipment can be repaired, lives cannot be replaced.. this is exactly why we hate foamers in my industry. why don't you go lick the wheels on 642 and tell me what flavour they have?
@coreywilliams74459 жыл бұрын
ImpyLane I actually feel bad for the seven passengers as well. Lives are more important then machines anyway. BTW I'm not a kid man. -_-

+Corey Williams you waited over three weeks to add more to your previous comment? wow, that must have really eaten you up inside.. and no worries, nothing personal intended, I just can't stand foamers and the comment you made was really, well, foamerish. I work for CP at Alyth in Calgary so I see foamers all the time, it gets old..
