Me and my mom took Amtrak Silver Meteor from Jacksonville, Florida to New York, 4years ago when I had to take her to New York. Since she could no longer fly on an airplane, the train was the best thing to take. My mom was already having a hard time walking that time so we decided to take the roomette that was handicapped accessible… You know, for the price of a roomette, the handicapped accessible room was as big as the bedroom suite, complete with its own shower and toilet and all the amenities of the bedroom suite, like food being included and delivered (since we ordered room service).. I thought it was such a great deal and my mom was very comfortable and happy. 😆 👍

When I was a kid (in the 70’s) my mom bought a vacation package to take Amtrak from Portland to LA (25 hour trip) to go to Disney and other sights. We only had chairs but we were loaded with sandwiches and snacks. It was a trip I’ll never forget.

Rode Amtrak three times; 1979 from Chicago to NY, and a few years ago from NY to Albany. There is still a Pennsylvania RR culture at Amtrak- all of the personnel love railroading and are friendly and helpful.

We just finished our first ride on the auto train. We booked coach and our tickets we dropped to $96 each and our motorcycle was $126. For just an overnighter this was great. like you we enjoyed it a lot.

We have done about 12 round trips on the AT. We do bedrooms now, but started in coach. The lower bunk in the bedroom is wider than a twin, but it's not as wide as a double. We do share the lower bunk and sleep head to foot as that gives us the most room so we're not shoulder to shoulder.

I did this. I loved it. Had no choice; partly disabled and moving to Florida permanently with my car. if I were to drive from wash. to Orlando, IT IS WAY MORE THAN 12 HOURS OF DRIVING. Coach is awful; YOU MUST BUY A BEDROOM. I did not pay extra to disembark early either. I drove down from Long Island outside on NYC THE DAY BEFORE and stayed at their hotel; very clean and nice. I booked an upper floor bedroom for a more quiet room. My full upper bedroom also had the full bathroom and two swivel captains chairs. I ate at a table for four (enjoyed talking to three strangers) with white linen tablecloths and napkins and had a sumptuous 4 course meal with complimentary wine. AMAZING EXPERIENCE (solo traveler).

This was super interesting. As someone else said, when I was a 'tweenager my parents took out family on an Amtrak 'Disneyland Special ' from Vancouver to LA. We were in coach. For kids it was fine, and we got up to all kinds of fun. I'm sure it was less comfortable for my parents but we had a marvellous trip that we still remember. I traveled on Amtrak twice years ago. Once was just a round trip from home to Richmond VA. The second was on the Auto Train. The Auto Train was enjoyable when I rode it in 1998. I purchased a Roomette. I enjoyed the whole ride, except for...my mistake on this... I purchased red wine for the meal. Did not get much sleep because of it. The Auto Train operated on frieght Railroad CSX, which is a bit bumper than Amtrak's own lines. Although the train does get priority statis, unforeseen delays may occur. It should be a whole lot better now than when I rode it. Many times, the issues on passenger trains are not because of the train but of other passengers who don't know how to behave properly. That can affect the conductor on that particular car.

I'm considering taking Amtrack from Houston to New Orleans, coach since it's not a long trip. I plan to ask a friend or family member to take me to the train station. Amtrack coach ticket is around $43 per person each way. Cheaper than gas to get there and I won't have to pay to park my vehicle in New Orleans.

Assuming you would be coming from the UK, you would have to rent a vehicle to be able to ride the Auto Train. A booking cannot be made for the Auto Train without a vehicle. However, Amtrak has two New York City to Miami trains that are as good as the Auto Train: Silver Meteor and Silver Star. Both trains have coach and sleeper accommodations as well as a lounge car and dining car.

My wife who uses a rollator have used the certain numerous times. We always stay on the ground floor and the last trip we stayed in a wheel chair room so we had complete bathroom . They brought the food for us, set up the bed as shown on the video. The service was great. For travelers in their eighties I recommend the car train as the only way to travel going and coming to Florida.

We used auto train a few times but it was about six years ago last time. This looks much improved! We had a roomette both times and it was not very nice. Windows were so dirty both times that we could barely see out. No nice dining cars or lounges like the above shown either. Happy to hear that it has improved.

J&B taking the train is absolutely the way to go, we love it. We've been "training" in Europe, Japan, Canada, England, South America even a tiny trip in Cuba most of our country, (Australia) on the rails, planning a rail experience in New Zealand next year. We really enjoy sitting back and watching the miles go by. Won't ever get to the US again to sample Amtrak, but your report gave the flavour sample which was great. I recently moved to Fla and took the auto train also, but in coach. I think if I was better prepared with a pillow, blanket, and ear plugs I would have been better rested. It saved me from driving all the way from NY by myself as well as wear and tear on the car so it worked out fine.

I went on this train about 8 years ago. We would up getting 2 roomettes directly across from each other. This was a pretty good option as we could talk to each other while sitting in our chairs, both sleep on the bottom bed and have a little more room at night when we had to get up to go to the bathroom. There was a toilet under the table (? I can’t remember where exactly) which meant we didn’t have to go elsewhere in the middle of the night but didn’t wake up the other person. I agree about the track bed on the train corridor. It’s a little rough and bouncy when you are sleeping.

I think you are mistaken about the “toilet under the table.” Amtrak “Superliner” cars [which are used on the ‘Auto Train’] DO NOT have toilets inside the roomettes. Only the full bedrooms have toilets in the room.

We’ve done it twice - once when moving to Florida with two cars and once just because we didn’t feel like doing the drive. That second one was a spur of the moment decision as we were approaching DC. My wife found the last roomette while we were in the car on the road. We’ve had the full room and the roomette. We enjoyed the trip both times. The service was good and the food was, I’d say, about good airline food level. One tip for departure - if you’re late and barely make the cutoff, like last car in (!) there’s, pretty much no waiting. They take your car and they call for boarding about 5 minutes later.

Have taken the auto train numerous times when w lived in the northeast. Back in the day (early 2000’s) you boarded to a happy hour with wine and soft drinks included plus snacks in the lounge. Later movie time included cookies and othr snacks. Our young family loved taking this travel journey to central FL and added bonus we had our car with us all packed up!

For me, this is the best way to travel up north. My sister lives on Long Island. Since I stay for a month, I love the ability to take my own car. My advise, take a portable Blu Ray or DVD player along with some Blu Rays or DVDs as well as CDs to play during your trip.

I was astounded at the increase in cost of travel on Auto Train since the end of covid. It used to be a pleasant and cost efficient way to Florida, but wow, now it is only for the money folks to travel in a bedroom. And Coach - you can't convince me. Try a weekend during March and see if your experience was the same.

My mother & I took this train when we did a road trip to Canada. Your review is spot on. I didn't realize you could bid on an upgrade but I will keep that in mind. We had the roomette also. I slept in the top bunk, and I am 5"9", 200+ pounds, and at the time, I was 60 years old. I agree getting up and down (several times of the night for bathroom breaks) was challenging. That said, I would do it again but maybe with two people, have 2 roomettes across the hall from each other.

Another YT Train Traveler Couple suggests getting Roomettes across the hall from each other. In addition to the room, you can leave your doors open and see out both sides of train. Not sure how difficult that is to arrange/reserve. As a kid in the 50's & 60's, we took the train many times between Indianapolis and Chicago. It was named after a Hoosier poet, James Whitcomb Riley. It seemed so magical to us. Glad you were able to get your trip in before the recent bad weather, though my brother in Sanford said they only got rain and wind.

Many years ago, at a party of 6 family members, we rode coach from New Orleans to Tucson, AZ, and slept very well in the recliner seats. They had blankets and a huge leg room, I think I would have preferred coach to your room because I'm not too fond of tight spaces. We too were impressed with how friendly the staff was even though they hardly had time off for 38 hours they had smiles on their face and catered to our wishes. We loved this trip and still talk about it after all these years. We did have a few hours wait since the train was late, which we learned was normal, and most people call in to check before taking taxis to the station. We didn't get to reserve our seats together, but we all lucked out. I was on crutches from a knee replacement operation. They let us board first, so we were happy about that. Like I said, this was decades ago so not sure if all is the same but it sure looked like it. We ate in the restaurant and found the food very good.

My husband and I have traveled coach in the auto train three times now and will be going back in April. We do miss the meals but pick up sandwiches for our dinner. I don't recommend the lounge car food. Seats are comfortable and we wouldn't be able to handle the roomette. Cost of the bedroom is too high for us. Yes, earplugs, pillow and blanket are recommended! 😅

you guys are very blessed....usually you drive to Virginia and the line is backed up to 1-95...then the train doesn't even leave till 8pm at night and doesn't arrive in sanford till 1pm...and you get your car at 3pm......you were very blessed...I think the auto train is great, but it needs a big upgrade. with newer train

Used this a number of times 2008- 2014 . Don’t get the smallest cabin unless your traveling solo , spend the extra to get the preferred unloading , don’t reserve the early meal reservation it’s a zoo . Worth the money all night long .

I've traveled with my motorcycle in a roomette alone, and in a family room with my wife and two children. The only drawback with the family room, is because it's the whole width of the train, it has to be at the end of a car. Which puts the room, right over the trucks/ wheels of the train. You'll feel everything! We nearly got tossed outta bed from the movement.

I took the auto train in each of the 3 years prior to covid shut down. I found it very convenient and comfortable with two exceptions - while there was no damage to my car some things were disrupted - it is beneficial to pull into their parking lot befoe leaving and review all your settings. the other issue is that I believe I picked a parasite from thier tank water. (They provide bottled water with a room but tank water is used for coffee, tea and hot choclate in the car your room is in.) I am thinking about going next spring but an hesitant as I am unsure how familiar they are with the operation of my newer plug in hybrid.

Nice report. As snowbirds we have been taking the Autotrain twice/ year for about 10 years now, enough to earn a free trip on Amtrak points. Comments: it sure helps to be flexible to manage the roomette upper berth but the bedroom upper berths are much easier to manage. When we started booking bedrooms I stopped having to bring my pee bottle to take care of nighttime needs. At peak season forget about upgrades. Book early and arrive early if you want an early dinner seating. Seniors, you know. Also priority offloads are great to have as the regular service can take upwards of two hours if you arrived for boarding at the unlucky time. A view I try to see is Jacksonville and the Naval Air Station.

Good review. As someone who travels to New England from Florida, I wish the train went beyond Lorton. To me, Florida to Lorton is the easy part of the drive whereas going through the Washington area, Maryland, New Jersey and New York even over the Cuomo bridge is stressful.

We took this years ago when our youngest was 2 (now 19). It was great, the ONLY issue we had was that the coach area was not quiet enough for the baby. We were adjacent to the door between cars. Otherwise it was fine! Everything was clean and everyone was great! When I say clean, It was always clean! Obviously there are always a few people that make messes but it was given the proper response from the staff!

Great review and I’ve taken the train many times over the decades and experienced the coach seats, roomettes and the private rooms. You are totally accurate in your overall review, especially the amazing staff, but the biggest single issue for the auto train are almost certain massive DELAYS. I was once delayed 12 hours gong north. It started with a four hour delay of our incoming southbound train. The wait to get into the station in Florida was so bad; I was on a busy highway for two hours. Once on the train we took off four hours late and I never got dinner, then just one hour into the route, we got stuck behind a derailed freight train and sat for six hours. We inched north after that, and after a cold lunch we ran out of food . When we finally arrived in Lorton it was utter chaos at the station. The departure/arrival delays ripple up and down the route so when there’s a big delay for any train it takes several days for all trains get back on schedule. It’s not uncommon for this train to be delayed several hours, and depending upon your arrangements at either end you will be out money on a hotel room or other obligations. That is the main reason I don’t take this train any more. You are at the mercy of a single track up and down the northeast corridor and share the track with freight trains. Rider BEWARE and plan for the worst!!!

I enjoyed your video and it represents my thoughts when we took the auto train a number of years ago. I looked over your companion guide and found it extremely detailed (good). I would suggest that you add the cost of $.25 to $.50 per mile for the car option. Having your car on the train saves miles on your odometer which can cost additional depreciation, maintenance, and impact your warranty timeframe.

We were scheduled to take the train on Weds Sept 25th. Unfortunately it was canceled due to hurricane. It was the first time we were going to have our own bathroom and I was excited about it. We have had a roomette once. Usually we would just sit in coach. Coach is fine if you have a face mask and ear plugs. I have mobility problems so a moving train is a challenge. They used to have a meal for coach, that is gone. I always found the trip an adventure. We had to drive after the cancellation! We were informed too late to make other plans. We drove down during Helene. Very challenging. The train does take the curse off such a long drive. Definitely bring your own food an drinks if you take coach. If you have mobility issues be sure to sit in lower level . There are plenty of outlets for charging devices. This wasn't the case when we first started taking the train. Wish the auto train went a little further north, DC is a challenge!

When we did our train rides (from California to New York) I loved it. One thing that does happen on that route is the train has to pull over any time there is a freight coming through, as they have precedence (in all states but Colorado if I am remembering correctly). We had a room, and I was on the top bunk. I doubt I could deal with that now, but we are used to a king size bed so I'm not sure we could share the lower bed. Concerning food: if you are on a multi-day trip you realize that the food options are limited (and we don't eat red meat which cut out some options), so you'll be doing some repeat meals. Still, I'd go back in a heartbeat! (My husband wasn't as jazzed.) I just love train travel!

Actually they don't have to. Amtrak is supposed to have the right way over the freight traffic (legally), but it doesn't happen often.

Thank you for this excellent video, and I agree with all that you say. As a solo traveller I buy a Roomette, and have always found the onboard staff really helpful and friendly. Overnight trains in Europe are very different, and whilst efficient, I don’t think they have the charisma of the Amtrak long distance services, and coach seating in daytime Amtrak services is far more spacious and comfortable !

I've made multiple trips on the Auto Train, though admittedly my last run was just as Covid was breaking out. I love having the ability to take my vehicle with me, meaning no need to hire cabs, rent a vehicle or fumble with bus schedules to travel locally in Florida. Additionally, no need to manhandle luggage over the duration of the trip, other than a carry-on for personal overnight needs.Very easy and convenient.

I have traveled the auto train 4 times..and only ever had a problem once when the train was delayed and we didnt leave the station till near midnight.. BUT the Employes did everything to make us comfortable while waiting they provided us with food in the station.. and everyone was extremely nice... I would much rather ride the auto train than drive any day.

I took this trip southbound about 10 years ago in September just to ride it. I went via coach and a bought a $3 clearance pillow at Walmart! At that time, they fed everyone, so dinner and breakfast were included. More recently, I had a roomette on the California Zephyr and I agree that the top bunk is claustrophobic and not comfortable. Good luck getting out of it if you need to use the bathroom! The biggest issue is waiting for your car upon arrival in Sanford. I live in NJ and I find that I-95 is typically heavy as far south as Fredericksburg (about halfway between the Beltway and Richmond). During the summer season, traffic can be tough to Richmond. However, most traffic heads towards Virginia Beach and Williamsburg on I-64. You do not experience really heavy traffic again until you get to Jacksonville, Florida. There can be pockets of sluggish depending upon the time in between. By driving, I am usually able to reach Fayetteville, NC leaving around 6 AM and stay at a hotel there. I once made it as far as Savannah, GA, but that is really pushing it (during the summer with longer daylight hours). I think the concept is great, but I'm not sure if I would book it again.

REally great video. It captures the experience fully. Here are some tips if you are travelling peak times and in northern winter. I have done coach several times and also roomettes. Both are fine. In Coach it seems most people start sleeping at 9 pm---lights go out about then. Once you have done roomette you don't want to go back to coach. Another tip---take own pillow for both types of accomodation and if you have any hip issues maybe use your ski jacket (snowbirds) on the bed about hip level for extra padding. Earplugs a must in coach---snoring men!!!!!!! Be aware for getting auto off it is random except for first 30 who pay extra. I have waited over an hour or sometimes 10 minutes after the first 30 off. They call numbers (there is no order) and it comes up on a screen. Yes take own snacks. If you are in roomette you have a chosen seat vs coach so you don't need to be there early with the crowds but it does mean you might get a non preferable dinner time. But you are not waiting in a long line for check in of vehicle . I have had a great experience in both types of rooms. Another vlogger suggested a couple book 2 roomettes side by side and I think that is a great idea so nobody has to use an upper bunk and price is about same as bedroom.

My wife and I have taken the autotrain five or six times. If you're staying in Florida or traveling north for more than two months it's an economical option versus flying and having to rent a car. The other plus is you can pack your car full of the stuff you need for your extended stay. One of you has to be healthy and small enough to climb the ladder and get into the top bunk. Six foot and not to wide is the limit IMHO. The train isn't quiet so if you need absolute silence to fall asleep get some Ambien. You'll need it. The attendants have all been very helpful and the meals, while not a ton of options, have been pretty good. We are no longer able to make the drive from NY to FL so the Autotrain has been a very good option.

Good video! We have taken this train several times over the years, both north and south. Sleeper class used to have a free vine tasting in the club car before departure. We have been in both the roomette and bedroom and do prefer the bedroom. Keep in mind the the bedroom brings a different dynamic to sleeping. Instead of rocking side to side you now rock head to toe. Some do not like this. Lastly I think you are way off on your weekly car rental price. The only time I have seen$1000 for a week out of MCO is for a high end auto or a 9 passenger van. Cheers

We have taken both coach and the bedroom for North-to-South trips.. The only downside was that sleeping was difficult for both. More so for coach, but the bedroom was difficult also. The train rocks a bit. and it is amplified for whomever (me) gets the upper bunk. Also the train horn goes off loudly at many crossings. Other than that the big plus is cutting out the driving time. If we took it again it would be the bedroom, and we'd only take it if we could get a deal (we got half-price on the bedroom).

my family has used the Auto Train a handful of times. The direct, non-stop route is great. the first time was both ways for a Disney, etc. vacation, and we sat in coach, but were able to get seats in the smaller lower level section. It was ok, but talky fellow passengers, etc. were a problem. Later trips were moving my daughter to/from Florida, so drove one way with all passengers, and the other half on the train minus one. On these trips were used roomettes. One time it was me, my wife, and our 20ish son, so us old people could use the lower bunks and our son took the loft, since he can sleep through anything. One another trip, it was just me and my son, so same deal. If we use it in the future with just me and my wife, we'll need to book a bedroom, since neither of us would be able to climb up to the upper bunk.

The AutoTrain is great and I've taken many times in both directions. By the way, you can only take the train if you go by car...it is also not possible, for a number of reasons, to choose the left side or right side of the train to have your roomette. Roomettes are significantly cheaper than bedrooms but if you have any infirmity, as many seniors often have, the top bunk will be next to impossible to get up into. At least, I jokingly say...if you do use the upper bunk, before you get into it or go down from it, take two Tylenols, wait half an hour, and then go up or down! I've seen many seniors simply sit up in the chairs in a roomette all night, rather than attempt sleeping in the upper bunk. Could you have two people sleep on the bottom bed...very, very, very cramped...essentially not possible. But if you don't believe me, check the dimensions of the bottom bed on Amtrak's website and try it at home. But all said, I love Amtrak and the AutoTrain.

I love riding Amtrak but when you arrive, you are not surrounded by hotels and car rentals like an airport would be. Some stations don't even have a building. Being able to take your car with you solves this - I wish they did this on more than one route!

I've been on Amtrak's Crescent line from Atlanta to NY with my son. We went coach going up, but I immediately switched to a roomette coming back. I agree that the coach cars are appointed well, but some of the other passengers were extremely disturbing. One man wouldn't stop talking to anyone and everyone. One man used the shared bathroom on the car and rendered it unusable. One person smelled really bad. My son, who was 17 at the time, hated it. He couldn't stretch out or sleep at all in coach. With the roomette, we were able to have privacy and stretch out. And the food offered was better. There is a couple, Rob and Allie from Grounded Life Travel, who use Amtrak often when they're in the U.S. They have lots of tips on how to make the trip more comfortable and enjoyable. I would definitely take Amtrak again, but not coach unless it was a short trip. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I'm from Orlando but I'm stationed at Langley AFB. I've taken this train many many times. Like anything there are pros and cons. Pro's - No wear and tear on cars - I can take my Porsche home without putting miles on it. In the past I'd always drive my day to day commuter. The room is awesome..Do it!!, coach has plenty of leg room too but I like my privacy. Everyone is friendly and it's much much less stressful than flying. I enjoy chatting with the retirees (which there's a lot of). Bring all the food and snacks you want (wife had snacks and cooler ready). Potentially cheaper than renting a car long-term. Lots of scenery and the occasional announcement providing info. Your luggage stays in your car and just bored with a carry-on Cons Can be very expensive depending on time of purchase, season and even direction. The bathroom turns into an absolute nasty disaster.🤢 Trains break down which affects other trains. I was 5 hours late one time. Coach no longer includes dinner. Not really a smooth ride but you get used to it. Some people snore LOUD...(Coach). The best tip I can give is to spend the extra money and get your car unloaded first. I've gotten lucky without paying and have also waited 3 hours being one of the last passengers which is a terrible feeling when It's already been over a year or more seeing family. Overall I'm so lucky to have the Auto Train as an option to go home and be able to drive my own car to visit family. Sometimes flying is more practical and cheaper, but it all depends on the situation and desired comfort.

Done it so many times. I keep writing to Amtrak to suggest they create a mid-class car. They should remove the present seats and install theater-like Laz-Boy recliners for better sleeping comfort. It wouldn't be a private sleeper, but at least you would be more comfortable and able to stretch out. The cost would be a little higher than coach, but not as high as the sleeper cars. My only other complaint about Auto-Train is delays. They are hard pressed to get to either station on time each day.

Good review. Unless I need to drive I'll opt to take Amtrak rather than flying because it's more civil than the way airplane travel is today. Even though the compartment accommodates two people it's more suitable for a single person. I've travelled in the compartment alone and it's a lot more comfortable than being knee to knee with someone else and I can stretch out. When I have a travelling partner we always get the bedroom. The upper bunk in those are more roomier. Never been on Auto Train but have their other long distance trains in the west and on the Texas Eagle since it runs through my home city of Austin.

I've been on the Auto Train many times since the 1990s and have been going at least once a year for the past several. They put their best crews on this train since it and the Acela are the only ones making a profit for Amtrak. Even when it's "just me" I book a roomette if at all possible. Years back, I did "coach only" and it wasn't so bad - or wouldn't be if it hadn't been for the guy snoring like a buzz saw behind me. These days I drive south (for whatever reason I'm going to Florida) and take the AutoTrain back - and I still have a drive from DC to New Hampshire after unloading. I love the Auto Train. Often, the train has pulled into the destination early. The one time that the train was horribly late even getting to the start (over 7 hours due to an engine failure earlier), Amtrak did their best to keep people in the station informed - and even had pizza getting trucked in to feed the waiting patrons. I'm taking the Auto Train in November and I'll be taking it again in the future.

We've ridden the Auto Train many times, usually in coach. The first time we were in a bedroom, which was OK. This last time we bid a roomette upgrade and were severely disappointed. No room to stretch out except in bed and neither of us slept well. Amtrak discontinued the coach dining car during COVID and didn't bring it back. This is also a disappointment as we always enjoyed our meals. BTW, we retired 5 years ago.

That's a great question. We were recently in the roomette and wasn't concerned with this. When we went to dinner or the lounge, we took our small backpack with valuables with us. We don't think it is possible to lock the door from the outside, but you can always take your pack with you to the bathroom. There is very little extra room in the roomette to keep extra valuables. I have ridden on every Amtrak long-distance train, including the Auto Train, except for the City of New Orleans. The Auto Train is Amtrak's only long distance train that covers its fully allocated costs. In FY23, which is the latest report, the Auto Train was on time at its end points 66% of the time. The on time percentages for the long-distance trains ranged from a high of 75% for the City of New Orleans to a low of 33% for the California Zephyr. I have been a solo traveler for the last 38 years. I book an economy room if I am going to be on the train over night. It is tight even for one person, especially if you have to get up in the middle of the night to use the toilet. I have booked a bedroom on two occasions. As a rule, a bedroom will cost twice as much as an economy room.

@@RetirementTravelers The best Amtrak route for scenery is the California Zephyr from Denver to Emeryville (San Francisco). Although the Zephyr runs between Chicago and Emeryville, I have taken it from Denver (twice) to Emeryville or vice versa (once). It is timed between Denver and Emeryville so passengers can see as much of the mountain scenery as possible. One of the best rides was during the winter. The snow scenes were awesome. Two other favorites come to mind. The Coast Starlight from LAX to San Francisco includes a run along the Pacific Coast. For high speed, it is the Acela between New York City and Washington.

The Lorton, Virginia Auto Train depot is only about 6 miles from Mount Vernon, the preserved home of first President George Washington. So, that may be worth looking into. The Auto Train is a consistent money maker for Amtrak, so IF they could get more rolling stock, seems like they should consider creating a 2nd route. Maybe: Niagara Falls, NY via Buffalo - Cleveland, OH - Cincinnati - (Direct south on Norfolk Southern freight tracks) to Chattanooga, TN - Atlanta - Jacksonville - Sanford, FL. That would potentially get Canadian "Snow Birds" to/from Florida, as well as U.S. citizens.

The issue is not rolling stock. The issue is that the cars are too tall for some bridges and tunnels north of Lorton and south of Orlando. There is no business case to perform the changes necessary to support the train.
