Amtrak Auto Train Switches & Departs Sanford, FL for Lorton, VA

A look at the Amtrak Auto Train operation in Sanford, FL. First, a Dash 8-32BWH switches out a cut of 19 auto racks and couples them to a cut of Superliners. Next, this aft half of the train is coupled to the forward cut of Superliners, and then the train, pulled by two P40DCs, departs north about 15 minutes early for its nonstop, 17+ hour trek up the Atlantic Coast to Lorton, VA as Amtrak 52.

Thanks for watching! I think doing what I did here seemed to be kosher. Staff at the time seemed to be used to railfans around. I try to stay a good distance out of everyone's way. Train did a horn-show coming out, friendly crews. I guess a common-sense approach worked when I was down there, good luck if you go.

Oliver Porter Amtrak should order Siemens Venture Cars since they ordered Siemens Charger SC44s because the superliners are too much weight for the Siemens Charger SC44s. If Amtrak doesn’t order Siemens Venture Cars then the Siemens Charger SC44s should be retired
