Will, your video is really well thought-out and well edited. Thanks for posting it. I am curious, though, wondering why so many people really hate riding Amtrak and write really bad reviews of it, especially on TripAdvisor. I think they approach it with the wrong attitude. It's not the Uptown Hilton, or first class flying. It's a train, with bumps and stops and slow pace and sometimes forcing you to do without things like hot water or working toilets! If you can get yourself into the pace and put up with the inconveniences, it sounds like the way to go. I rode cross country in the days far before Amtrak came along, and still have fond memories, like a full turkey dinner in August in a dining car with white linen tablecloths! Thanks again and keep havin' fun. I have subscribed.
@WillEdmond5 жыл бұрын
I agree. Most people approach it with a bad attitude. We live in a society where people want everything fast and quick. Amtrak isn't that. You are suppose to relax and enjoy the scenery and the small hiccups that sometimes comes with train travel. If I'm delayed, it dIdn't matter to me on a train because I've planned time for a delay just in case. You had an awesome experience back in the day as well. Glad you are following the journey. Thanks again.

Sorry if you already done it -- maybe even done a video about it -- but New Orleans to LA (the Sunset Limited) !!! Do it! The station in SA is near the Alamodome and the station in LA is awesome (we've all seen it it TV shows and /or Movies) -- and it's in a cool part of LA from which to start a journey around ALL there is to see and experience there ! AND, I very much enjoy your videos -- I've only just "found" you (watching videos about Ashevillle, NC). You're energy is very positive -- love it!

Fellow rail enthusiast, here, and a new subbie. I enjoyed your vlog so much, from the thorough content to your vivacious spirit and humor. That was so cool when you waltzed right up into the sleeper car. I remember, back in November, I was on an East Coast Amtrak train and we were on a smoking break/fresh-air break at Albany, and across the platform was a train waiting in the station and headed for Chicago. I was so excited that the conductor of that train gave me a private tour of the sleeping car. I was sitting down, spinning around (as you did in your vid) -- oh man, so much room! I can't wait to do my first overnight train: Empire Builder, for sure. I plan to do my trip via Amtrak Vacations; after riding across the Midwest to the Pacific, there's a motorcoach to Vancouver (from Seattle, I think), and then from Vancouver to Toronto by VIA Rail Canada. If you want to see 1960s vintage streamliners - check out recent videos on the VIA trains between Winnipeg and Churchill, Manitoba. The gentleman who explained the situation with Superliner equipment being unable to go through the Hudson River tunnels is correct. They are too big. However, NJ Transit's Bombardier-made bi-level cars were designed to be able to fit into the tunnels, so while Amtrak can't run Superliners into NY Penn Station, NJ Transit does run bi-level trains into PSNY. Another problem for the Superliners is that they only have doors capable of serving low platforms. Penn Station only has high platforms.

I took the Seattle-LA Coast Starlight (I think it was called) in coach and really enjoyed it, despite the lack of a bed. The chairs fold lean back quite a ways and if you use your luggage as a foot rest you can get mostly horizontal. I love watching the landscape roll by, love the quiet meditative quality. Bring a book and just chill - low stress, lovely views, quiet and way more comfortable than flying. Oh, and the rocking is not nauseating, like boats. Just gentle rocking 😴😛

Such a great experience traveling the country - trains. Back in high school I made the trip from San Bernardino to St Louis, Mo. Since then I've taken day trips to San Diego. Need to do it again as its been years ago.

Your positive attitude and excitement are infectious! Just about everything I have read about Amtrak has been horrible and negative. This is one of the few positive reviews. Yours is by far the best. I have never rode the train, but I want to try it. I am also in Atlanta and wanted a review from the Atlanta station. I am now excited to try it because of your review. Thank you!

Thanks for the love LaTonya! The train ride from Atlanta to New Orleans is a breeze. And it’s super affordable. I did coach class and only spent $130! With the prices of gas you can’t beat that. Hope you check out my new Amtrak video.

OMG! Will, I have been taking the Crescent Train from New York Penn Station to Spartanburg, SC Station since forever. My trip is 13 hours and I have ridden both coach and first class( bedroom). I love taking the train. One note of advice, bring a sweatshirt and a blanket because it’s freezing cold on the train at night no matter which season you’re travelling. I love taking the train. I love your videos. I can’t wait to go on your next train adventure with you.

I rode Amtrak a lot as a kid but only a few times as an adult. I love it though! Just don't be in a hurry 😆

I always dreamed of it and finally got to do it. I literally just got off the Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle 1 hour ago. That video will be our Sunday. Thanks for watching and always supporting.

I stumbled upon your video and I have become engrossed wanting more. I'm a former employee , Amtrak Auto Train (Lorton,VA.) OBS- Chef. Sadly, I didn't take advantage of the many travel discounts for employees while working. Was just to tired to ride a train after 2days on & 1 day off, (extra-broad) the train. Oh well, I hope/will enjoy my railroad pension, fully vested after 5years. Enjoy your rail riding and stay safe. Peace & Blessings.

We are taking the autotrain in Dec. We've done short term trains but this will be first longer one, as we always fly everywhere. Loved the upbeat positivity of your video. Makes me look forward to the trip!

My mother’s partner was a retired Amtrak conductor. He regularly ran the train between Illinois and New Orleans. His train stories were fascinating. He and my mother are now laid to rest beside each other in a beautiful cemetery in Memphis.
