Right?! this dude is wholesome as hell. I took the train from Chicago to New Orleans after my grandmother insisted because that is how she travelled from Chicago to her grandparents farm wayyyy down in Mississippi. It was one of the best travel experiences that I have had. Also was so cool to experience what my grandmother had experienced 60 plus years later.

Will, We enjoyed your excitement taking your first train. Since retirement we have had time to take the Empire Builder to Seattle, Edmonds a suburb. A great trip. The wife saw elk on the mountain side going through Glacier National Park. The scenery was beyond belief, except for the plain states. Flat but still beautiful. Oh BTW wave when you go through Fargo to our friends there. We have recently taken the City of New Orleans to New Orleans. Stayed for 2 days then on the Sunset Limited to San Antonio stayed for 2 days and finished up on the Texas Eagle to Chicago. What a trip!!! We hope you get time to see the Aquarium when your in New Orleans. And if you are a WW2 buff make sure you catch the action at WW2 museum. Thanks for sharing.

Will, your video is really well thought-out and well edited. Thanks for posting it. I am curious, though, wondering why so many people really hate riding Amtrak and write really bad reviews of it, especially on TripAdvisor. I think they approach it with the wrong attitude. It's not the Uptown Hilton, or first class flying. It's a train, with bumps and stops and slow pace and sometimes forcing you to do without things like hot water or working toilets! If you can get yourself into the pace and put up with the inconveniences, it sounds like the way to go. I rode cross country in the days far before Amtrak came along, and still have fond memories, like a full turkey dinner in August in a dining car with white linen tablecloths! Thanks again and keep havin' fun. I have subscribed.
@WillEdmond4 жыл бұрын
I agree. Most people approach it with a bad attitude. We live in a society where people want everything fast and quick. Amtrak isn't that. You are suppose to relax and enjoy the scenery and the small hiccups that sometimes comes with train travel. If I'm delayed, it dIdn't matter to me on a train because I've planned time for a delay just in case. You had an awesome experience back in the day as well. Glad you are following the journey. Thanks again.

Great video! Lots of good info. They do bring the lights down in the evening, but not til later. I looooove trains. I took the Seattle-LA Coast Starlight (I think it was called) in coach and really enjoyed it, despite the lack of a bed. The chairs fold lean back quite a ways and if you use your luggage as a foot rest you can get mostly horizontal. I love watching the landscape roll by, love the quiet meditative quality. Bring a book and just chill - low stress, lovely views, quiet and way more comfortable than flying. Oh, and the rocking is not nauseating, like boats. Just gentle rocking 😴😛

I was glad to see you still had access to the Cafe car. We're planning a trip this fall on the Crescent from Gainesville, GA to New Orleans and from there to San Antonio on the Sunset. Fellow rail enthusiast, here, and a new subbie. I enjoyed your vlog so much, from the thorough content to your vivacious spirit and humor. That was so cool when you waltzed right up into the sleeper car. I remember, back in November, I was on an East Coast Amtrak train and we were on a smoking break/fresh-air break at Albany, and across the platform was a train waiting in the station and headed for Chicago. I was so excited that the conductor of that train gave me a private tour of the sleeping car. I was sitting down, spinning around (as you did in your vid) -- oh man, so much room! I can't wait to do my first overnight train: Empire Builder, for sure. I plan to do my trip via Amtrak Vacations; after riding across the Midwest to the Pacific, there's a motorcoach to Vancouver (from Seattle, I think), and then from Vancouver to Toronto by VIA Rail Canada. But I also want to ride the Crescent because you showed us how cool it is, AND I've got to see New Orleans!!! Thank you for the excellent adventure by rail on Amtrak!

Sorry if you already done it -- maybe even done a video about it -- but New Orleans to LA (the Sunset Limited) !!! Do it! We live in Houston, so we started there -- and there are possibilities, I think, from Chicago to San Antonio where some of the cars on that train join up with the train coming from New Orleans to continue on to LA. The station in SA is near the Alamodome and the station in LA is awesome (we've all seen it it TV shows and /or Movies) -- and it's in a cool part of LA from which to start a journey around ALL there is to see and experience there ! AND, I very much enjoy your videos -- I've only just "found" you (watching videos about Ashevillle, NC). You're energy is very positive -- love it!

You are adorable, your enthusiasm is infectious. I too have always wanted to travel by train. I live in the northern suburbs of Chicago and what a shame that I haven't taken advantage of Amtrak's services. I'll seriously consider it now, thank you for your tour. Travel well, be safe, and continue finding joy.

My grandmother used to ply the Crescent back in the era when it plied up the Atlanta and West Point to Atlanta, then switched to Southern Railways for her trips to South Carolina. My kindergarten class rode it to West Point. Thanks for bringing back some precious memories.

I also took the Amtrak Crescent to NY one year. The purpose of the trip was less the destination and more the journey.

I've travelling on Amtrak train even before Amtrak merged private Railroad Company for over 52 years. I hopped once or twice a year acrossing in any part of USA as I love it and no matter if the train is delays or on time because trains travel is a blast with a wonderful socially different people from all over the world and a beauty by looking a view passing to different areas too.

Wow! Kenneth you’ve witnessed all the changes and you’re right it’s one of the best ways to travel. I enjoyed looking at the landscape and seeing the small towns.

Such a great experience traveling the country - trains. Back in high school I made the trip from San Bernardino to St Louis, Mo. Since then I've taken day trips to San Diego. Need to do it again as its been years ago.

We are taking the autotrain in Dec. We've done short term trains but this will be first longer one, as we always fly everywhere. Loved the upbeat positivity of your video. Makes me look forward to the trip!

I rode Amtrak a lot as a kid but only a few times as an adult. I love it though! Just don't be in a hurry 😆

@@WillEdmond the Empire Builder is what I always rode but from St. Paul to Pennsylvania! With 8 hours to spend in Chicago! It was great! I love seeing people fulfill a dream! I'm so glad you enjoyed!
