I didn’t even know you can do this instead of having to drive. Thanks for the info!

It is a nice option and you get to see some of Colorado you can not see from the road. The downside is then not having car in Glenwood though the bus system worked for us.

New subscriber here! I want to ditto this trip this summer. My grown kids and I just came back from Estes talking for four days we flew into Denver and then rented a car. But this looks like an awesome trip on the train. Now if I can just get myself to do the paragliding at 70 years old I’ll go for it. Love your videos love you don’t talk too much just tell us the basics!

California Zephyr to Glenwood was my first Amtrak trip ever and it was great instead of driving, probably better now than driving since I-70 is having issues. The one downside is sometimes this train can be delayed significantly. One time my trip back to DEN got canceled after an issue, but that meant one more day in Glenwood. So I guess it was a win-win.

Amtrak in the Western US is not known for keeping its schedule, just something you need to keep in mind when choosing to take the train. But it is so much more relaxing than driving.
@aviationchrome3 жыл бұрын
@@Learningtotravel Agreed! Other than that, it is a fun train ride. Thinking of possibly maybe doing a weekend trip during the holidays.

Paragliding is not as scaring as most people assume. More of a relaxing float/soar back down to earth than an adrenaline rush.

Nice video, we drive I-70 through this area to see family in Vegas twice a year and love stopping in Glenwood for golf and the hot springs. Saw the Rocky Mountaineer pull in when we were there in Oct and would love to take it from Den to GS or even Moab, but the price is pretty nuts to us so we may do this option one day. Like you said, you can see different stuff from the I-70 route and just enjoy more while not driving. I know you went round trip but I assume most people take these trips one way, esp with the pricey Rocky Mountaineer. We've wondered how most people going one way get back to their starting point. Of all the train vids I've seen on this route I've never come across anyone mentioning this basic question. I'd assume most get a rental car but can't imagine many options in Glenwood and certainly none in Moab.
@Learningtotravel Жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. We would guess most people who take the Amtrak to Glenwood Springs do it round trip because it is so cheap. Round trip coach seats will be about $120 or so, sometimes cheaper. Glenwood does have a few car rental options (Budget/Enterprise) but that would cost a lot more than the train ticket. There is the Bustang, which is a bus that goes from Grand Junction to Denver with a stop in Glenwood. Amtrak does not go to Moab but we have taken it on to Reno and flew back to Denver. Salt Lake City would be another option to do that on the Amtrak. For the Rocky Mountaineer I would guess people fly to either Grand Junction or Salt Lake City and take a shuttle to Moab to start their journey. Moab also has a regional airport with service to Salt Lake City. They also offer packages that start in either Vegas or Salt Lake City. I know I didn't exactly answer your question but I hope that helps. Enjoy your travels!

It's a very comfortable trip on the train but 6 hours is a bit much. Driving is a little over 2 hours. If riding the train is the purpose of the trip then yes it's totally worth it.
@Learningtotravel2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. That is a nice way to stating it. Taking Amtrak is for sure about the experience and you get to see parts of Colorado you will not see from I70.

Getting around is a big challenge in Glenwood. Everything we did was in town so we were able to walk. Maybe try calling Sunlight Mountain Resort and see if they have any shuttles from town? 🤷🏼♂️ Sorry we can't offer more help.

This trip was in early August. We've thought about doing it later in the year to experience snow on the train route though, which I suspect would be the case in November.

asking a question as a traveler wanting to try amtrak! was there any type of baggage check or security like an airport?? this was amazing!
@Learningtotravel Жыл бұрын
Baggage check is an option though we have never used it as there is always plenty of room to keep your bags with you in your car. There is not security like an airport. Every station we've been to you just line up on the platform and get on the train. Thanks for watching!

6 hrs? That seems long for that distance.
@Learningtotravel2 жыл бұрын
It is not the distance it is the elevation. The train goes pretty slow getting over the mountain. In our experience it can be even slower when it is very hot outside. One trip we took the train went about 10MPH for a good stretch of the route. Took longer than 6 hours.
