Amtrak Nightmare / BIG DELAY /Lorton VA. to Sanford FLA.

Well ! on this Memory ,we encountered our first delay nightmare . Bad weather , cold pizza and warm water ! But we made the best of it ! meet a lot of friendly nice people , still in all we had the Amtrak Hospitality that made it a great ride all the way to Sanford FLA. I also experienced a big delay on the train from Philly to Tampa several years ago. Huge storm, trees on the tracks, etc. It turned into a 35 hour trip but I must say that the staff was wonderful.

We've done about a dozen round trips. Worst delay we ever had was about 3 hours. We also had a trip with a tree down on the tracks that had to be removed. Another time, a brake issue that had to be fixed and another time when we had an engine go bad and we had to wait for CSX to bring a loaner. Add a couple of medical emergencies and trespassers on the tracks for other delays, but overall the latest we've left was about 6 pm and the latest we've arrived was about noon (back when the ontime departure was 4 pm and ontime arrival was 9 am). It's all part of the adventure. We love the train and always get a bedroom also. We also bring snacks with us (pb & cheese crackers, nuts, cookies, chips) because you never know.

Thanks for sharing this with us! As you know we had our own challenge the last time we rode the train from Sanford to Lorton. You guys did a great job staying positive the whole time and just going with the flow. There isn't anything you can do about it anyway right? As you said...At least your trip wasn't cancelled. I also noticed you said about seeing things you don't normally get to see and that is the one positive thing I thought of when we were delayed is that we got to see a lot of different parts of the country and some of the scenery is amazing. Glad you made it safely and whoop whoop!!! 3rd car after Priority! I'm sure you won't give up on Amtrak....We haven't either. Thanks again for sharing!!

That’s right you guys had a similar experience also . We still made the best of it , that’s how we roll ! The different scenery was great, it would be dark still when we rolled in those areas. Thanks for watching!

Still haven’t but the bullet. But I hope to by summers end. Wondering if you have suggestions on when is most reasonably priced time to try. Or the least busy. Thanks in advance. Thanks so much for watching, so happy our video are helping you to make a decision in traveling with Amtrak. It beats the traffic and driving. As far as best pricing you have to keep checking there website they run special unexpectedly, in the summer the snow birds are already here coming north. As you get closer to the fall and winter the pricing fluctuates going south. Hopefully that helps on making a decision. Who knows maybe you’ll see us on the rails! Thanks again for watching!😊😎❤️

I’ve had that unfortunate experience twice. I am track with the delays, but I learned to order food. Have it delivered stop at Publix or the grocery store across the street from the train station get some cold cuts potato chips some ice and some Gatorade and you’ll be just fine.

OMG we would have met you ! We got a text on May 10th saying our train for the 11th was cancelled ! We had to drive home and they only gave me a 300 voucher for the inconvenience We are going back in November and still excited to relax on the train

We stayed at Old Port Royal , what a beautiful resort , you will see in our upcoming vlogs . We never ate at Victoria and Alberts yet but it’s on our bucket list. Our Favorite resort is the Grand Floridian and second world be Contemporary , we love them all actually ! Lol

Love when people travel Amtrak and then get upset when their are problems. Its Amtrak, they are nothing but a problem. You should have went into this knowing their will be problems.

Yah I could understand that! We almost had to drive, believe me , we thought about driving instead of waiting all that time delay.

@@thetravelinglovebirds9065 yeah Washington DC to Richmond can be a nightmear but once you get south of Richmond , for the most part its easy driving, no tolls , more rural etc . I know many people drive to MD/ VA to central Florida non stop and maybe just rest in a rest stop if they feel tired. I drove from Annapolis to St Augustine last year non stop - wtih 4 hrs of sleep.

Amtrak was the worst travel experience of my life. It was filthy, uncomfortable, food was gross, the staff was racist, and my kids got lice.
