My experience with Amtrak ops at Union Station in Chicago, Intermodal Station in Milwaukee, and Union Station in Washington DC, is that the will not blast the horn twice upon departure, nor once after stopping. There are other stations where I have seen them do this, but they were all uncovered, outdoor stations. Joliet, IL (On the way out of Chicago) or the Wisconsin Dells are examples of where they will use the horn and bell.
@robertvirginiabeach5 жыл бұрын
1. I've read comments below other videos that indicate horns aren't used in the real world NY Penn Station and the approaching tunnels because the sound is too loud echoing off the hard ceiling and walls. There are probably similar issues in Grand Central which isn't available in TSW (might be available as part of a Train Simulator 2019 DLC). 2. The dark vertical panel to the right of center offers in cab signaling including a digital speed restriction indicator. That system can be turned on in TSW but the scenarios don't require its use and the associated added complication to driving the locomotive. Look in the manual for instructions using that panel.

hey jeff the pantograph is used for powering the loco. you cant put it down well the train is moveing. if you put it down the train will not have power to move.

Hey jeff, so my father is a retired 🚆engineer for mbta/mbcr and with the pantograph you only will have 1 up at a time for where you need the power supply. On the train washes, every railroad has at least three washes.

Hey Jeff. Great vid. Quick note: in large terminals such as NYP, horn blasts are not required, only the bell.

@jimdavey7075 жыл бұрын
You don’t use the horn in the station, or pretty much any time you start an Amtrak train on the corridor, just the bell. Yellow over red- approach, Max 30 mph, prepared to stop next signal. Yard speed- 15 mph or less depending on the track Train wash speed- 3 mph (or slower). Old DC yardmaster would make you back up and rewash the train if he saw soap suds on it still while exiting the wash there.

The part sticking up is actually what is connecting you to the power lines above that are providing the power to the train.

Not when there are no power lines to connect to, which is why I was trying to bring them down
@MythicalLeader5 жыл бұрын
@@jfavignano It's an electric train, therefore it needs power to run it. If the pantograph is down, it makes no connection to the power lines above it. The sim may not allow you to put them down as it will cut the power. Also, the sim does not accurately depict the electric cables above it, as you would usually see the pantograph undulating with the cables in real life.
@jfavignano5 жыл бұрын
I know that, it was doing that earlier until we got to the yard. You can clearly see nothing above the train
@MythicalLeader5 жыл бұрын
@@jfavignano Yeah. That's the sim forgetting the cables are actually needed. They would generally be everywhere the train would need to go to supply constant power.
@jfavignano5 жыл бұрын
@@MythicalLeader I thought the same, was weird. I figured they were using battery or something to get into the yard without it. I don't spend much time around electric trains where I am from. The Amtrak trains I have been on did not need it.

A few things that I was taught about the bell on a locomotive is that it must continue to ring for six seconds after the engine is passed the end of a station platform or after giving a signal forward or reverse that is not around a station the bell must continue for a minimum of six seconds or until the head end clears another train or a work zone.
@technocardy5 жыл бұрын
The pantrograph is what is supplying power to the train. If the game would have let you put both down your train would have lost all power and stopped. These trains aren't running off of the "3rd rail".

Speed increases are only once the entire train has passed the speed board. Reduced speed must be met once passing with the lead of the train. Dynamic brake is the most common way to reduce speed over time. Watch under the "next signal" for your next speed (decrease at the yd measurement and increase once the entire train has passed the speed board). - Railway worker
