I like how the dash 8 is just staring over the p42's shoulders.

As a AMTRAK rider on a regular basis I have had some rough rides. On the SWC, East bound, our train hit what we learned later was a cracked rail. It made the crew of the dining car scream and hold on........I don't want to do that again!!!

The train saw you and then did a little dance :). But seriously, that track could've caused a derailment if it bent any further.

Some replies are from people that assume the engineer NEVER tells anybody about rough track and that guy is in the front, where everything happens first.

I believe I have hit that same kink in the track in the past while riding the Amtrak.... knocked the salt shaker off the table. Very noticable and dangerous if you are walking about the train. Fix it!!

What was the deal with the second locomotive?
@timofeegraaay81655 жыл бұрын
It is the passenger version of a GE B32-8 and is often used on the Crescent and sometimes on the Ethan Allen. Obviously it is not Streamlined and was not adopted by Amtrak when the P40 Genesis units took the majority of lead duties about 17 years ago or more.

It has taken me years to realize why wildly wobbly tracks don't cause more major problems than they do. If the gauge is solidly maintained the rolling stock manages remarkably well plowing through erratic misalignments and dips in rails.

So, why isn't the track being repaired? Conrail is responsible for the maintenance, right?

This is great to see. Honestly, when I ride the train to Chicago, I feel like there are at least 3 or 4 of these kinds of jolts on the 3.5 hour ride up or back. Maybe more. I love a good shimmy, but I guess I haven’t had a hot beverage dumped on me yet! 😁

the rails looked warped back by the signal, where the road intersected with the train tracks.
