The NY Metro lounge is how it should be at every Metropolitan lounge. Especially for the price people pay for sleepers.

I love you both so much. And I just love your video content. I was born and raised on everything Amtrak. My Grandma Mary and I would ride the Metra from Lake Forest to Chicago all the time. And then we took the Amtrak Cardinal to Washington DC when I was 14 and I’ve been hooked on Amtrak ever since. In a world where I’m surrounded by crazy politics and taking care of my toddlers while also working 80 hours a week, your videos, bring me peace 🩷

Thank you both for your channel. I along with my Aunts, and Family of eleven booked our July 2-7 Family Reunion early in middle of January 2024 from Mississippi to Boston for about 150.00 each round trip. First train adventure, even though it was a long ride in coach, but we all enjoyed it, and now ready to plan our next train ride. Love your channel from here in Alabama. Much success to you both

They really get back to traditional dining on the Lake Shore Limited. When we traveled to and from NYC we were able to eat in the dining room even with being in coach. I felt it was the highlight of the trip. We had to pay for our meals of course but met such interesting people who were seated with us.

Thanks so much for all the great advice! After watching many of your videos for advice, I just did my first cross country trip on the California Zephyr … and I’m thankful for all your advice! There were so many great tips that had me prepared for my trip. It ended up being such a great experience. We did end up being 12 hours late, and it resulted in a free 2 day vacation in Chicago. It was such a blast. They put me up at the Swissotel for 2 nights and I was able to sight see most of the downtown area. Even caught a classical concert in the park. 😊 I’m taking the train from now on. 😁

When you went through Toledo, OH 23:17 you were in the real life and fictional hometown of Jamie Farr & Corporal Klinger respectively. Jamie in his role as Corporal Klinger always discussed the real Minor League Baseball Team the Toledo Mudhens making them still to this day one of the highest selling MiLB teams, and actual Toledo landmarks such as Tony Packo's restaurant. Love the video!! I see that now Amtrak is incorporating Superliner Diner/Lounge cars built during the '80's-'90's into consists on The CA Zephyr. I think these cars were intended for shorter overnight use. I'm sure they're having problems keeping their ageing cars maintained with no word on building replacement cars in the near future. I like how the updated Viewliner II's have included extra electrical sockets in Roomettes. Too bad they couldn't place them more towards the windows instead of next to the sink.

Hi! I’ve been traveling on Amtrak via the Lakeshore Limited and Empire Builder since 2019 and I absolutely LOVE it!! I do, however, find that by the time I get to Chicago (in either and both directions) I tend to have “sea legs” once I get off the train in Chicago. This past year and a half I e started taking Dramamine about 30 mins-1hour before I get off the train in Chicago and that seems to help. I was curious if you might know of any other helpful ideas? Thanks! Love your videos!

I am beginning to think a bedroom over a roomett as it was our first time in a roommett with my son who had to leave the upper bunk down in our lake shore #1 from Ohio to New York, banking my head a couple of time on the upper bunk( ouch) after using the indoor toilet. I think the bedroom is more room and with the bathroom/shower is a plus!!!!!
@mikeymutual54895 ай бұрын
I Hope you are ready to pay twice as much for the bedroom over the cost of the roomette.
@squalli12975 ай бұрын
I agree. Roomettes are not for everyone-especially those who are not agile, very tall, & the claustrophobic. Although pricey, it's best to book reservations early (up to 11 mos. in advance) to get the best prices.
@The_DuMont_Network5 ай бұрын
Well sure... A Bentley is more comfortable than a Malibu. And you pay for the difference. Roomettes are fine for two good friends. The upper bunk is a little tricky. The best of all worlds is the Family Bedroom. Windows on both sides. Big beds up and down. Shower and potty 25 feet away, restricted to First Class passengers. Sometimes less expensive than Bedrooms.

It’s kind of interesting to watch this, but I can’t imagine wanting to ride around on a train. Hay guys! I'm planning a trip from Tampa, FL. to Portland, ME. next year first week in June. When would you recommend I book my tickets?
@chrisdobrowolski27835 ай бұрын
As far advance as possible, most of the time a lot cheaper doing it that way especially if doing it in a sleeper since the sleeper pieces once the first sleeper gets book, then next sleeper will be more expensive the the last sleeper on the train will be the most expensive. For coach you do not have to book that early but still maybe. A month earlier.
@harold10985 ай бұрын
@@chrisdobrowolski2783 Thank you so much!

I’ve traveled on Amtrak before but never had a sleeper. How do you secure your sleeper when you leave to go shower etc? Is is like a motel room and you get a card you slide in the door?
@zak57155 ай бұрын
There’s no way to lock it from the outside unfortunately, only from the inside.
@chrisdobrowolski27835 ай бұрын
The best thing to do is take you important valuable in a small bag and take it everywhere you go to be extra safe. Also when leaving the sleeper slide the curtain closed and Velcro it, that way if the door slides open people do not know if anyone is inside there. Also the attendants make sure nobody from coach enters the sleeper cars so unlikely people will steal from the sleeper people but it unfortunately may still happen but a lot more risky in Coach to get stuff stolen since the baggage you bring on the train is right next to the door.

I am finding out that it takes a great deal of planning to rail across country. I was going to try from Florida to California. So Tampa to NY. I would then have to stay over night in NY to catch the train to Chicago then on to Emeryville. You also need to have a great deal of points or a few dollars if traveling in a roomette. So I better start saving now. 😊 I definitely want to take the trip. How do you get the rail prices from Toronto to Vancouver?

How can you stomach the FLEX slop? What you show is like the pix on the brochures, but I have NEVER seen it presented like that on the Eagle, Cardinal or even the poor Crescent. I am a diehard AMTRAK fan, ride 4-6 times a year. The FLEX is an insult to both food and diners as well. I posit you got special presentation for this video.
@The_DuMont_Network5 ай бұрын
Also, Observation Cars were the last car on the train. No AMTRAK train has one now, nor Dome cars. Some Superliner routes have SIGHTSEER LOUNGE cars, Viewliners have no similar lounge car. Sadly, Observation Cars are gone from AMTRAK.

I am relatively new to your channel. I really like both of you and your content. I am a recently retired senior with some mobility issues. I am really interested in an overnight, sightseeing train adventure in the United States or Canada. I've found the Amtrak website to be confusing. At this point I am interested in location and price as opposed to scheduling a date. Are you able to suggest a trip or a website where I can obtain the information. Thank you.
@chrisdobrowolski27835 ай бұрын
unfortunately there are no websites like that because Amtrak price varies depending on how full the train is. Also The ADA room is the most expensive room but it is the only one that fits a wheelchair. Also if you are in a wheelchair you will NOT be able to access the observation and dining car on the Superliner which are 2 floor cars, but on the Viewliner cars which are only 1 floor there is no observation car but if your wheelchair fits through the doors go between cars you will be able to get to the dinning car.

I have enjoyed your videos so I hate to say this…this new video seemed like so many others. There are only so many times I can get excited about the light switches in a roomette or icky looking food.
