Quick tip: a neat tool is a mini flat head screwdriver. Use it to separate and lift strands of wire that are bunched together. Also a few hemostats are useful to clip onto the end of longer wires to let them droop down and hold onto a wire so you can know where it is and which wire you mean to grab. Last tip try a three strand braid on the wire in some places instead of the wrapping with smaller gauge wire.

Something to look into: a lot of wire- based jewelry crafters invest in a set of, well, basically leather thimbles. Unlike the metal or plastic thimbles used in sewing a leather thimble doesn't hinder your grip and dexterity while still providing a layer of cushioning between flesh and metal. Some prefer to just keep at it until their fingertips are so calloused they don't even notice the constant pinching and stabbing.

Seriously serendipitous. I recently hit a rockhound shop and picked up some terminated crystals *just* for wire-wrapping experimentation. Had no clue how I'd start, how you SHOULD start, nothing. I just knew I wanted to teach myself how to wrap up some crystals. So thank you VERY VERY MUCH! It is appreciated.

After watching, I had a neat Wizard costume idea. Make a mold from a stone and create a plastic stone with whatever tints and SFX additives (sparkles, glow, etc). Then wire wrap it. Might even add a hidden led after for other SFX. Great video!

I just saw your idea on a staff, with a momentary ignition button on the bottom the staff, hold the staff down hard and your gem glows, one could even use an old headlight dip switch.

This is such a lucrative craft to get into, too. I had a large chunk of Floridian Obsidian (rare) wire-framed into a pendant, and the guy charged me $50! Those pieces are subjectively worth $10-$20. I say "subjectively" because the price is totally up to the crafter due to how few people do this, in my experience. Did I get ripped off? Most would say yes, but now I got a beautiful Obsidian Pendant that is one of a kind, and a story of how I protected to kids and their lap dog from a territorial Pit Bull and came out unscathed. So I'd say we're even.

Doubt you will see this but I have just found your channel and going through the back log. I have started playing with wire so will try this, but one thing you might like is I made cool looking effect by twisting wires together - fold a length in half, anchor one side, stick the other end in a drill and turn it on to start twisting! Go as much as you want, and then you can repeat (I told the drill to go in reverse the second time, but don't know if that made a big difference.) Saw this on an Alex Steele vid when we was making it for a wire wrapped handle.

For the tree one, I've seen wire trees, (like for decor, or little knick-knack things...okay, that's really still decor. Enh), where they also had beads on the leftover wires to look like leaves. Some of those are REALLY cool, and I think, (depending on the stone you use), that could be really neat and add some pop! 8D now I've got an idea how to do it without killing my own fingers more than necessary in the process! ^^ I thank you and recognize your fingers' sacrifice.

If you don't want your nails to hurt don't use them especially if you are working with hard wire. Use your pliers to give your wire shape. I noticed you used your nails to pool the front and back wires from your cages. Use the tip of your pliers instead. If you cannot separate them from the other wires because they are too tight use a small knife to separate them from the cage first and then the pliers to give them shape. I have been doing this as a hobby for years and let me tell you it is great in so many ways. It helps me relax, it's cheap, it's satisfying, I have a bunch of jewelry that are unique. And all my friends absolutely love the pieces I made for them as gifts.

Malachite has stopped an asthma attack in its tracks worn on the left wrist. I was surprised and relieved by how well it worked. I can't wear it always though because it sends my arm numb and the cold reaches into my chest and too close to the heart for comfort. It's a real need only stone for me.
