For me this was the best ride in Disneyland Paris. With no loops or high drops but just smooth movement, theming and excellent animation blended perfectly. It is a truly astonishing ride!

I do really want to know if a car gets “lost” or turned around- does the whole ride freeze? Does the cart do some kind of guaranteed safe move? Or does it spin around for a bit until it finds its heading? I’m dying to know.

It has a specified path. If it varies more than 4" from that path, it stops all vehicles. The vehicle will run if the spin function does not work.

One of your best videos! So glad you included details about multiple theaters for scene one, but do you know if the scene AFTER the pantry is also in duplicate, or is it short enough that it only requires one? I wasn't able to figure that out yet.

It's short enough at around 30 seconds combined with the stove bit that it only needs one. (It also shows it in the floor plan as well) Often too, and this is the case on JW The Ride at USH, they often mesh both the outgoing and incoming videos together with a soft wipe.

I think this ride is a great combo of practical props and projection. There's this stupid fan boy lady in a stream that told everyone she would not ride it because it's a lazy projection ride.

There is truth in that lady's complaint. I am not sure how old you are, but in Disneyland they used to have The Swiss Family Robinson Tree House with all real props and items, then they changed it to Tarzan Tree House and put in a bunch of giant plastic toys that were like super sized Happy Meal toys that did nothing, they just stood there. This was after Fantasmic had just blown everyone away with innovation, so yeah, the lady has a point, it is a bit heavy on the lazy side with screens instead of the real thing - or trickery to not tell they are screens (Haunted Mansion Toyko - or is it Hong Kong??? which ever).

@@TheRadioAteMyTV there's little truth. The truth in her statement is that it's a projection ride. But it's not lazy, it's practical so the cars can recharge, not to mention the fact it is easier (and admittedly cheaper) to tell a convincing story this way. It is, after all, just a clone ride, so perhaps you can throw fault to the original ride if you wish, but I think anyone who is unwilling to ride this for "laziness" is just a snob

Just to prevent confusion, It's a Small World was never on the cheap, just tech got way fancier as the years went on.

I'm always mystified by people who make statements like that.... for a start, it's not billed as an old-school animatronic-filled ride, and projection is simply the more modern & technologically advanced Pepper's ghost. It's like expecting every ride to be the same as they were when Disney designed them himself. The irony being that if Disney was alive today he would _absolutely_ be utilising this kind of modern tech.... building & programming the software & hardware to project convincing 3D to moving cars of riders (which themselves are a complex system of sensors & systems) is at the opposite end of the spectrum to "lazy"!

Lackluster movie screen ride makes sense now, it has to stop in front of a movie screen because it constantly needs to recharge. I know it's a different mechanism for movement but it would have been nice to see something like the Shanghai(?) Disney Pirates ride that uses screens but is also in constant motion.

I can't speak for this ride because I've never been on it, but I've been on Rise of the Resistance, as well as the Transformers, Spider-Man, and Harry Potter rides at Universal Studios. Yes, these things generally look better in person. Maybe not better enough, but better. I think the issue here might be that they don't really seem to hide the screen at all? (I could be wrong and maybe you can't see the screen as much in person.) Like if they had some props in front of the screen at the bottom, or blocked your view of the bottom with the ride vehicle more, people would notice it less.

It’s because the screens are in 3D hence the need for glasses, unfortunately you can’t send that effect through video.

3D works by each of your eyes seeing a slightly different image (Hold your finger close to your face, and alternately close each eye, and you'll see the finger shift from side to side- your brain sees both of these images separately, and makes it appear as though your finger is close to you). With a normal screen, or projection, both of your eyes see the same image. With these attractions, they utilise various methods of separating the image for each eye- on most attractions, they seemingly use specially filtering lenses on both the projector, and the glasses that people wear- the image (light) for one eye, gets filtered in one direction, and vice versa for the other. When you wear the glasses and look at the attraction screen, your eye sees two different images at the same time & makes things appear closer or further, like in real life. If, however, you don't have the filters in front of your eyes (like in most POV videos of attractions on KZbin): you see both images, in both eyes- so anything that should 'pop' out will be blurry. Makers of these POV videos could remove that blur by placing one of the lenses of the 3D glasses in front of their camera- that way they'd be recording the image intended for a single eye, and thus it wouldn't be blurry. Hope that answers your question, and gives you some background. *breathes*

Good video. One correction, though: inside of the pantry, when we see the refrigerator at the end with Remy and his brother, you clearly see the food inside it are actual props and not a flat image. Instead of that being a screen for the lower half that effect is achieved with a rear projection, since they have a frosted glass effect on the front being it is a fridge with lower temperature.

I wonder if these ride pod use Ultra-Capacitors instead of Batteries? It would make sense to do so because these ride don't have to run for very long between charges and are be charged constantly. Plus ,unlike batteries, Ultra-Capacitors have an almost unlimited number of charge/discharge cycles.

How easy is it to make a transmitter to hit that frequency to either jam or scatter the rides? I didn't look up the frequency to see where it falls, but in high school we built kits in electronic class that were for wiping out VHF TV frequencies. That was it's whole and singular purpose. Yes, I hooked it up to the antenna and used it on Super Bowl Sunday and of course it worked for all those who didn't have cable. Hey, I said I was in high school.

If the signal is being sent using Spread-Spectrum-Frequency-Hopping(SSFH) Then you might find it next to impossible to jam such a signal. To jam such a signal would be like playing an RF equivalent of Wack-A-Mole. Unlike a normal analog TV and Radio signal that only uses one fix frequency. An SSFH signal is constantly changing it's channel in real time at around 20-30 times a second. If you were to turn on your jammer and knock out one of it's channels. all it would do is just ignore that channel and only use channels that are still clear. OK, so I know what you're thinking. What if I could build a jammer that hits all the channels at once. Well good luck with that one because you're gonna need a jammer that can put out several kilowatts of power to do so. Let's put it this way. You ain't gonna be jammin an SSFH signal with a device that fits into your pocket and runs off a 9-volt battery.

I was super disappointed with this ride when I visited Disneyland Paris. Too much of this ride feels like just sitting in front of a giant screen on a sound stage instead of moving along with the scenery. Just look at 2:19 left corner to see what I mean, or 4:49 you can see the empty flooring and other cars. The trackless ride car and charging method is cool but overall it’s not too fun. It’s crazy that Spider-Man is so much older uses a similar ride type yet is way more immersive. Not worth waiting longer than 20 minutes imo

I kind of avoided mentioning who made them cause people were hounding me about saying Rollickin Roadsters was by Roush and they claimed it wasn't (though they never said who made it then lol). When we and the other party in our vehicle exited and notified the CM, they walked us through the unload/load gap hall, stuck us at the front, and put us right back on.

I wasn't impressed by this ride, partially because our first time the ride broke down 20 seconds in and the lights came on revealing the warehouse with projection screens we were sitting in, but once we got to try it again it just seemed like a series of rooms with projection screens that you weren't even fully immersed in.. you could see the ground and the edge of the screens easily! A waste of time.
