So first God gave us His only son so that Jesus may teach us the word of God (parables and stuff) which basically teaches us to be respectful and loving to each other. Second He died on the cross to show really the barbaric nature of us humans, but he also showed us there was a chance for redemption for even the roman captors that tortured Him He forgave. Jesus also bridged the gap between man and divinity, He died a man but rose again divine, and he kind of like shared that power among us all.
