In reality, Naruto could have killed him in the Final Valley either by summoning Gamabunta and ending the fight there, or by deciding to claw at Sasuke rather than scratching his headband. In their Final Fight in the Series, Naruto was still holding back tremendously and could have one-shot Sasuke with Boil Release potentially before he absorbed the other Bijuu Chakra, or hit him point blank with the Tailed Beast Ball while he was on his back.

@@Crimebot02 It's not really plot, Nagato couldn't kill Naruto cause if did then Kurama would be killed as well, he was taking on an entire Village beforehand too and wasted a bunch of Chakra soloing The Leaf already. Naruto had a lot of help against Pein sure, but I wouldn't say he had Plot Armor, who had Plot Armor was Sasuke who should have been dead a few times over lol
