in my opinion learning a language isn’t throwing random words, it’s more MUCH MORE than that. a language describes who TRULY you are and you can NATURALLY express yourself when you’re mad, sad, happy, whatever. it’s the truth. 🤩🤩🤪🤪 you’re also more likely to make good decisions on how to speak with respect to others when you’re thinking in your second language 😋because...you literally gather up the words that you know in that language to say it the right way, meanwhile in your first language you can do whatever and sometimes even offend people. i think it would be nice if Hattie learned korean because 😓...jin speaks korean AND English and it’s just a way to show how much you care about their language and culture and everything

I think it's just a rather unusual way to express "I love you too" for some people. I actually only started hearing it because of the Korean language. When I first came to Korea, I was super self-conscious about the term "Oppa" because of things I read online/saw in videos. I didn't want to get shamed or misunderstood because of it. Only after getting to know Koreans, did I realize that it really depends on the person if he wants to be called "Oppa". Personally, I do not associate the term with calling someone "Daddy". It is a big part of Korean culture and as a female you need a certain term to address older males you are close with because it might be rude to just address them with their first name. I actually had a lot of older Korean males telling me to just call them "Oppa" because they did not think it would be awkward or weird at all. (Obviously it is fine for Korean girls to do so, so why not for foreigners learning the language) To make it short => If you are uncertain about how to address someone, just ask and don't let anyone shame you for doing so. If someone tells you to address him as "Oppa" and you are fine with it, just do it. (This does not mean, you should throw the term at every Korean male you see, especially if you are not close)
