That video with the 5 ft high of dirt , grass , and stone as a base with no retaining wall, idk what he was thinking. He was bull floating it at eye level for gods sake. Then the one video where he's setting the stair form and he clearly knows it's not square, and brushes it off and continues.. Idk just doesn't sit well with me.

For non pressurized lines what you did and were taught is OK but for us Irrigation guys the thought of not using purple and adding excessive glue only leads to blow outs when zone testing is done. When you first learn to weld it generally looks sloppy, if you learn to apply primer and glue efficiently it looks very professional with no mess at all. Purple primer also softens the pvc for a better fit. We always use the applicator (held by stem not cap) to measure and apply primer and glue exact length of connections or next PVC length fitting. If you apply the proper amount and spin pipe in joint when connecting you will get a perfect bead around entire fitting. Pipe fitters using galvanized or steel do not need purple primer as it's for pvc or abs only. I understand where you grandfather comes from. Great video Mike!

Mike I just want to say awesome job on this! You are always doing quality work, even solo. It’s hard watching guys struggle when doing work solo. I’ve been there. But it’s great seeing you calm and collective no matter the circumstances lol. I’ve got to secret tips to grading/lawn installs. I personally like to float the new soil out a good 6-12” into the grass, the root structure damaged from the removal spreads out a few inches like a shock factor. Also the super super secret tip for sowing in seed it take a plastic or metal rake. (I find plastic better) and flip it over. With the teeth facing up, you can use the back of the rake as a little plow to sow the seed in. It works PERFECT. I just walk in up and down in a straight line dragging the rake behind me and it always sows in super nice. Once again boss, awesome job! Hope I could spread some tips to a few.

Purple primer is code in the twin cities. It doesn't look bad if you're careful and apply the right amount. Some guys apply 2-3 inches up the pipe, put purple fingerprints all over it and then spill half the can on the floor. Lol, you can lead a horse to water.
@JettaTDI2005
@JettaTDI2005 Жыл бұрын
Hey Mike. Is purple primer required by code? Although ASTM F 656 only recommends that PVC primer be purple, this is a code requirement. The purple coloring is intended to allow the installer and the inspector to verify that the required primer has been applied. But if you do not have to need an inspection than Clear is good to go .
@johnbrzenksforearm8295
@johnbrzenksforearm8295 Жыл бұрын
That was a wye, not a tee. Steam fitters weld mostly on ships, Plumber's install pipe and repair plumbing systems. Purple primer is only needed if it's getting inspected so clear primer is the way to go to avoid a messy job. Don't get clear primer and clear cleaner mixed up because they serve different purposes. Clear primer preps the pipe and fitting for glue, while clear cleaner cleans dirt and debris off of the pipe and from the fitting. So if the pipe is dirty you clean with clear cleaner, prime with clear primer and then put your glue on. You can buy one step glues but the pipe and fitting still have to be cleaned or sanded if they aren't new or clean.

Interesting setup. My parents had a somewhat similar problem. They fixed it years ago by drilling 3 holes like 10ft down at the end and putting in the biggest pipe in they could get, filled it with bigger river rock. It was on the back of the house tho and the patio would always flood from heavy rain. But that fixed it entirely. You have to check if that is legal tho, because it might be a problem feeding rainwater into groundwater or something - if I remember correctly.
