As if Levon's musical legacy wasn't legendary enough, then along comes Amy, REALLY making dad proud.

This song, like Ray Montagne's Jolene, is about grief and loss. You have too feel those songs. You can't do covers of these songs if you can't reach into someone's chest, grab their heart with both hands and squeeze it like wringing a mop. Amy ripped it up. This was the most heart-rending rendition I've ever heard.

Met Amy in 2014 at the CAP in NY. Had a chance to chat with her. Talked about her dad's music and how he was a true musical treasure. She signed the set list for me and had a tear in her eye. The tradition continues. Luv ya Amy.

I rarely post comments to KZbin videos, but I felt compelled to do so here. This is an exceptional rendition and conveys the song's meaning soulfully. Amy's voice is captivating and is adeptly accompanied by her band. I really enjoyed both the instrumentation and the arrangement. What is the old saying? Oh yeah, 'less is more'. The harmonium introduction was hauntingly beautiful. You cannot help but listen to this performance with full attention. Music exhibits its power when it is performed with 'feel' and transports you to another place. It just goes to show you that quality music does not require a zillion-dollar production budget. Bravo and thank you for the joyful listening experience.

I couldn't agree more. I don't think anybody should squash a tribute to her unbelievably talented father. I thought it was beautiful. What I found interesting was she did solo single drum beats. .......... no cymbals, no full drum set. Nobody can do it like Levon did. That's her cloaked message, trust me. This was all from her soul. God bless u Amy. Loved ur Daddy. Miss him huge. ......

As the bell rang for the first early morning train back to my family's home away from home, I was filled with tears when I saw this video. What emotional drums. Like Amy's father before us, We will work the land. From rural Japan, with respect to Amy, Levon Helm, and The Band. Thanks for sharing this.

She's a talent in her own right. I prefer mandolin, ukulele, banjo, acoustic guitars, and even a fiddle added to this beautiful and Americana voice. No synths! It's nice to see a singer sing, rather than try to sell 'sexy' or shock us with 'wardrobe malfunctions' and other nonsense that takes away from the music.

Elizabeth Cooper 's holy cow, that connection just hit me, lol...she's just as talented as her father, which is often not the case at all...he was an extremely talented drummer, and it's those rare singing drummers I'm really drawn to. It's tough to do both well.
