There is no direct translation of the word tsundere to English. That being said, tsundere is the combination of two Japanese phrases. The phrase "tsun tsun" which means to act coldly, and like a jerk, and "dere dere" which means lovestruck, and openly affectionate. So the term tsundere means to be both at the same time or interchangeably.
