People are assuming movie Sonic and movie Amy don't know each other. He didn't recognize her because of the hood. For all we know, Amy went out to look for Sonic after he left his planet and has finally found him. Having them as childhood friends opens up the avenue of keeping Amy's original personality. But I hope they make her closely resemble Boom Amy.

They will since Sonic Team have clearly been active in making Amy not psycho obssessed with Sonic. They did a fantastic job with her in Frontiers and I think they went back to edit her interactions in Gens to change that.

When Amy the Hedgehog was first introduced in Sonic CD, she was essentially a female version of Sonic. Her character was all pink, and she played the role of a damsel in distress who needed saving by Sonic. However, her redesign in Sonic Adventure marked the beginning of her evolution into the Amy we recognize today. The Amy I grew up with was a self-proclaimed, obsessive fangirl of Sonic, often stalking him in her quest for his affection. Over time, though, her character has undergone significant development. I wonder if Sonic knew Amy in the past (as kids) and runs up to her to hug her due to him being so happy to see her.... (Now before you ask and say, "But Sonic said,"WHO ARE YOU" when she saved him, so that doesn't mean they knew each other before. Well, that's because Amy had her hood up and Sonic couldn't see her identity, and when she put her hood down, he saw that it was Amy....😅😅😅😅) Either way, I do hope that they have some relationship towards each other in the 4th film.... One more thing is that I really want Amy and Shadow (YES (SPOILERS), Shadow did survive in Sonic 3 as there was a 2nd post credits scene that revealed that he survived the explosion of the Eclipse Cannon, and could possibly appear in the 4th film....) to join team Sonic in the 4th film so that Sonic's family can continue growing and those 2 would make a great addition to team/family!!!!! Oh, and if Shadow does appear in Sonic 4 and decides to join team Sonic alongside Team Amy, then make that a team of seven....

The way I see it, Amy knew Sonic from when they were younger. She had a huge crush on him and Sonic would often runaway from her. Then one day, Sonic disappeared. She went to find Sonic herself. It took her a long time, and has had survival training along the way, and taught on how to fight. She eventually found Sonic (somehow… I’ll leave you guys to that part), and once she reveals herself to Sonic, she says “I finally found you, Sonic!” And hugs him. However, Sonic doesn’t remember her.

Also, remember the other franchise whenever Amy simps over Sonic? Perhaps during the movie it’ll be different because after she reveals herself, Sonic will probably fall in love with her after she saved his life from nearly being killed by Metal Sonic. So maybe the movie will be focused on Amy and Sonic learning how to interact with girls, this time Sonic will simp over Amy and she will find him weird and ignore him the entire mission with Sonic Tails and Knuckles. She’ll still be kind sweet and loyal, but also a badass with confidents to save the world.

I was kind of wondering that too. I mean, we know Sonic and Tails hail from the same place, and that the rings allow teleportation to other worlds. So Amy could very well be from the same planet/dimension, or could have been sent to bring them back.
