Thank you for this thoughtful inspiration. I am moved to feel the presence of Amy's subjects. Everyday people are those who tell the stories that I want to hear.

I was so inspired by the unveiling of the Obama portraits last year that I created an art project for my beginning level high school art class, called Black Artists Matter. It focuses on the work of both Sherald and Kehinde. Last year I used a video of Amy accepting an award, which was good, in my PPT. As I was preparing to teach this lesson again I decided to search to see if anything new had come up and this video appeared. THANK YOU! This is a refreshing, intimate, and expressive video to add to my curriculum and enhance my students knowledge of Amy as a person and an artist! ~Kristen Paradiso, Art Teacher Alhambra High School, California

Caught Sherald exhibit in LA. I was amazed of course at the size and how she gets dimensions so perfect. The subjects are not intimidating and the paintings look more like prints...no brush strokes and I think I read the medium were acrylics and oils...amazing artist!!!

Just from a competence and skill point of view it is not good. Like if you compare it to say Thomas Eakins or a serious artist like that. Just not serious, high quality or even good work.

She has a particular style that she has developed. Just because in your opinion you don't like it doesn't mean anything. Saying that she has no competence and skill is like looking at Picasso's later works and saying he can't draw because of his style. He was a master technician but you don't see it in his work.

@@deborahhall6849 Use Google Images to view Thomas Eakins work for a moment then come back and analogize to me.

@@thingy2780 I'm sware of his work and stand by my statement. I didn't feel that I was in anyway rude so I apologize if you thought I was. Her focus is not to paint like Eakins her focus is to portray Black American representation and photography.

Everyone has different opinions about everything in life, just like art. There are so many styles of art out there that not everything is going to be exactly like Thomas Eakins. In reality, we don't just look at "high quality" work and say that this is only the best in art, we look at every single art piece and think "How is this art?" We can not just look at just the style and skill, we have to look at the piece and think, how is this speaking to me? How does this speak to the viewers? What is it telling me? Yes, some people may agree that her style of painting is not good, but we are in a different time where everything is changing, just like art. I would say modern art isn't the best, but it is still is art. I do agree that Thomas Eakins's works are good, but we can not compare her to an old artist from a different time. Instead, let's compare her to a modern artist, someone who has the same style as her or the same amount of experience as her. I am only commenting on this just to say that her work, in your eyes may not look good, but to others it is. I study many artists and many different styles and pieces and have grown to have different opinions on every art piece, but we are asked to not compare the artist to others, but ask ourselves "Can we paint the same way they can?" "How does this piece speak to me?" I am sorry if there are any typos or any bad grammar, English is not my native language and I am still learning.

Personally, art isn’t about skill level or comparing your art to others. It’s about the emotions provoked by the piece- an expression of the soul what the person feels inside, not how it looks.
