Frank is a jazz masterclass. That Amy was so young made it that much more impressive. Her lyrics alone were mind-blowing ! Add that voice, and a legend was born. RIP - loved forever.

For me, she is the most gifted songwriter and lyricist of her genre ever. I have a Beatles collection which I love, but Amy wrote everything herself. Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson did a great job with the arrangements. Her live performanced were even better. I discovered her just after she passed away and was astonished at the level of songwriting. Hum a line from any of her songs and I know which one it is. "Frank" is one of the greatest albums ever written. I was deeply immersed classical music, and as a singer, with a love of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra, but with a limited knowledge of jazz, so it really took something really special to make me sit up and take notice. "When My Eyes" demonstrates her greatness as a lyrycist and " You Sent Me Flying" demonstes her greatness as a writer of beautifully constructed melody. These are my favourites. I prefer to remember her as a great young jazz singer with enormous potential.
@davidwhyberd76125 жыл бұрын
@freddy hernandez My friend Laura Jane Butler looks remarkably like her as well when she has the beehive and winged eyeliner. She sounds like Amy too with her powerful voice and is like her in character with her warmth, generosity and cheeky London Jewish wit. She is how Amy would have been in her forties and her shows sell out regularly.

2008topshelf She was doing some Frank Sinatra jazz covers. Amy was a wonderful singer right up until she left us. Even when she fell into her worst bout with her addictions... she could still sing like a songbird. It was sad to see her going down. The saddest part for me was it seemed like no one tried to save her. People boo'd her and heckled her on stage when she was drugged and performing in that state... people made bad jokes about her but who tried to save her? But you know... even when she was in that state... she still sang beautifully... sometimes she couldn't hardly stand up but she could still sing. She's a talent we shouldn't have let slip away.
@nlks1009 жыл бұрын
Sagirah Khalfani I am a big fan of hers but lets be honest her voice declined drastically after Frank era. I am not a big fan of her later music. It was way too dark as result of her drug addiction. Only when she came back to her jazz roots with Tony Bennett did I feel she was getting out of her drug addiction. Then she left us... I wish she had recorded one more jazz r&b album after Frank.

Every now and then a voice comes along that makes your heart beat faster as you listen, in fact you are forced to sit up and listen, and then you marvel, how can a voice sound that great, that soulful? And you know that the remarkable feeling Amy instils in you is just going to be with you until you die. This is the magical power that Amy had over us, we that loved her and that sweet husky, ethereal, special voice. I will never cease to wonder at how she used to make me feel, how she touched me deeply, and how I lost something in my life when she passed away. I know that I'm not the only one that feels this way. Such a loss, such a special and rare thing was Amy Winehouse.

It's hard to describe that sense of ultimately needing something that you know can/will kill you, unless you've been there. She looked healthy. Had weight to her before she sank before our eyes. Unfortunately as with many great artists she left us too soon. Fortunately we have her music to remind us of her love and pain. R.I.P Amy

Gorgeous woman, why did we allow the media to treat her so bad
@anastasiaamaxopoulou22867 жыл бұрын
She had such a beautiful face and body and she was so strong before the drugs. Why did she have to destroy herself? She was an amazing artist and I respect her because I have never heard voice and music like that before but I actually love it! She is the queen of jazz and we should all agree to that🙏rip queen👑
@starladaqt4196 жыл бұрын
Feelings are mutual Anastasia about the drugs. I wish her support system and parents stepped in more aggressively especially after her last concert because she was crying out. At that point, it showed that she had no control and desperately needed help. I still can't understand how people say they care for a person that needs help and fail to be consistent in helping especially if they're family. Seeing this beautiful woman deteriorate in the public eye with people who were supposed to love her is still heartbreaking. I couldn't see a person that I care for or love go through this no matter the effort!

@@starladaqt419 This is true, but the problem is that when someone is badly addict the situation is really bad they tried to help but didn't help *hard* enough. Especially alcoholism is uncontrollable devil and i speak from personal experience, add meth,heroin and other hard drugs to this and you've got the cocktail of hell. Things are really really hard then especially when the person is already in a really bad place. She left us too soon but atleast she gifted us a piece of her amazing work.
@katk52056 жыл бұрын
She got so skinny because she was bulimic, she had had bulimia since she was 15 she had told her parents that she had found her 'perfect' diet: eating whatever she wanted and then throwing up afterwards'. It was when shit really hit the fan in 2005 that she started using drugs and drink more but her eating disorder spiraled out of control. And it's easy to look at her bloated face and stomach, her rotting teeth and frail frame and think it's all drugs and drink but there actually all clear cut signs of bulimia and anorexia. I watched a program on her autopsy and the alcohol didn't kill her single handed. She got sober for a 3 weeks prior to her death meaning she could have survived such a large quantity a few weeks earlier but her tolerance had been lowered, mix this with her eating disorder and how her body was probably shutting down already and its deadly. If her liver was damaged from alcohol and then further damaged from undernourishment it's a death sentence. Even if she had stayed sober she probably would have died not long after from how frail she was and with her continuing to lose weight she would reach a point where she couldn't be brought back

It's hard to listen to a song like this and not to think that this girl had the potential to be one of the greatest female singers ever- up there on the same level with a Billie Holliday, an Aretha Franlin or a Nina Simone. We all know something went terribly wrong and there's nothing we can actually do but reflect on life's ability to puzzle us- how a bunch of talented people like Amy, Cornell, Cobain, Joplin, etc, simply choose to destroy themselves instead of embracing life as something worth living. Who am I to judge them? Sometimes I even think Amy's destructive process was the price we had to pay for her gorgeous music. I mean, my god, listen to her lyrics: she's talking exactly like a mundane woman who does not value her life and health all that much. Yes, Amy's end was WRITTEN in her song lyrics, clear to everyone to see, just like Cobain's end was written in songs like "Milk It" or "Come As You Are". It's weird, but everytime I listen to this girl's music, I feel equal amounts of happiness and sadness- as if she was stating, clear and loud enough, that life is both a pleasure trip and a nuisance we should get rid of as soon as we can.

She touched so many souls because her music is soul music! Soul music is not a genre it's a something that you feel and connect with when an artist unconditionally invites you into their world and let's you see who they really are without any filter. It's like love for your ears and heart. I love all of you, God bless. Peace and harmony.

Love the story of how she got the Nas beat...Salaam Remi told her she couldn’t have it unless she wrote good lyrics and a song that would work without the beat first and if it was good he’d let her have the beat. 😁 Love Salaam...he’s really good at drawing out the talent.
