Amy Winehouse - Onyx Barber's interview

Onyx Barbers

Onyx Barbers

In the summer 2003 a then little known jazz artist from London, England came to Toronto to do her first Canadian interview. Fitting her personality, oddly enough, she wanted it done in a barbershop and we were happy to oblige.
Here at Onyx we thought it would be interesting to dig deep in the archives and let all of you see this video.
RIP Amy Winehouse

What does that mean? The music industry worshipped her .... how many Grammys did she get from the jump? Amy was self absorbed .... in the most toxic way possible. Of course, not at this point .... but we know how it ends.

Her interviews are great. she's charming and intelligent, not arrogant or dumb sounding. I appreciate when musicians like this are not afraid to be themselves. she stood out in an industry where a lot of people are fake and try hard to be different. she was truly unique. her voice was a gift. sad she couldn't escape her troubles

Unfortunately once she started dabbling with heroin she lost that spark and became uninterested which made her come across as uninteresting and short with her answers in interviews. @@jodie11.11 she also just really hated fame though, the meaningless of it all, the repetitive questions. she didn’t like it. she was only on hard drugs for 6 months of her life after the btb release, she wasn’t always its thrall, she just hated what came with fame. but you can see her still perk up when music is raised, even in those interviews. that’s the thing she was there for and wanted to be there for, at the end of the day.

Don’t think she was on drugs in any of her interviews. It’s anxiety and being put on the spot while being asked all the same uninteresting questions in front of thousands or millions of people watching. She just couldn’t and didn’t want to be fake happy just cuz she was on tv. She never expected to be so famous, she felt most comfortable with small interviews and small venues.

super cool. thank you for posting this. i love her so much. singers don’t sound like this anymore. the singers these days all sound the same, have no soul, & are way too quick to sell-out their morals for fame. Amy Knew who she was, & was so straightforward. i miss her, & was heartbroken when she crossed over. i was 8 months pregnant with my only child when she died. i was born in april of 1983, so we were about the same age. having my daughter saved me. i was an addict for years-i got clean in 2010. getting clean off everything (except cannabis), changed my life. i got pregnant shortly after. i can’t help but feel if she had just hung on a little longer-she would’ve found someone better to love than Blake, & she would’ve become a wife & mother, & been happy, like i am. the world lost one of the most unique talented souls in 2011. breaks my heart ❤️. RIP, Amy. ♾️ awesome.

"There's no such thing as good pop music" I'm so happy she said this, I quote it all the time. She wasn't just special because of her absurdly amazing voice but she also fought for real music in a candy-store music industry. Pop is sweet but you can always tell it isn't real fruit.

HeartforSale Oh please! Michael Jackson? That man has had some incredible pop songs! C'mon..this is Michael we're talking about. I'm a singer myself and I have a really good ear for music and talent. So when I say that MJ has some outstanding pop songs.I truly mean that and I honestly believe it to be undeniably true. As well as Janet. Plus, Michael Jackson is the biggest icon/super star that EVER existed. Stigma or not. So it's safe to say that nobody compares to him.

Estelle Batts most of his songs just seem a bit vapid and empty to me, he defiantly was very talented and his songs are good because of that but his pop music doesn’t have half the soul that the Jackson 5 did, his talented was wasted on over produced and commercialised music.
@miyahlani
@miyahlani 5 жыл бұрын
HeartforSale I know I’m most likely biased (hence my profile picture) but I respectfully disagree. Perhaps you’re referring to his most popular songs, but most of his - less popular - songs either tell a story or have a special message. While Michael and Amy are very different, they both had a special connection/relationship with music.

i love her naturally curly hair . she was beautiful .. honestly people don't recognize that she had an eating disorder for five years by this time.. many times persons change addictions. although bulimia isn't necessarily an "addiction ' it has the same symptoms of addictive behaviors with the compulsions and anxiety . bulimia has a lot of the ins and outs of an addiction they feel bad from eating and the purge and feel a compulsion to do it again to feel relief . the binging on food is the addictive part and then the compulsion to get rid of it . and the remorse and the down feelings . it causes such early death . they bleed out and hemorrhage in their stomach . maids used to say how they found blood when she would get sick in hotels .. it was frightening . here she was throwing up blood and her narcissistic selfish father was showing up with his own camera crew and telling people she was going to do a new album and go on tour . and he didn't care that it wasn't what she wanted he did not care she needed time to be left alone she also didn't want to play to big drunken shows like weekend party concerts where they could barely see or hear her .. jazz is played in small theaters with a different crowd to appreciate her music . he was just a selfish putz . here she as bleeding from her stomach and skinny and unhealthy and also she was drinking . and he is just thinking of himself.. the was the child of definitely one narcissistic parent but the fact her mother did nothing to help shows that she might now have cared in a normal way either .. she had it bad with those parents for sure .

-No tengo demasiado tiempo y no quiero desperdiciar tu tiempo. OK, Que concideras buena musica pop? Amy muchas gracias. Gracias a ti, maravilloso, bien.

@@ryj6486 not changing compromising or doing collabs etc.for a buck. Was it Busta who was involved with Fyrefest? That was pretty bad if it was him working with a shyster, unbeknownst to him or not.

@@ryj6486 Jay-Z was doing a tour with R Kelly. And he also wanted to do a song with her but she declined. So, instead Jay-Z remixed her song, "Rehab." Jay-Z is known for jumping on the hype of other artists and their hits to make his name bigger. (His wife too.) She also let it be known that Nas was her favorite rap artist at a time when Jay-Z and Nas were at odds. (Sorry for the late response, KZbin never alerted me to your reply until today via another commenter.)
