I was a young wife and mother, I wanted a freezer a freezer so bad but we just didn’t have the budget for it- no Facebook market place back then. I went to a Women’s retreat and one of the classes was about being frugal. The teacher said maybe we don’t have because we don’t ask our Heaven Father for our needs. I went back home and started praying for a freezer and some clothes, I prayed for about three months when the call came from a lady at church, her mother had past away and she wanted to know if we would like the freezer and she also has some clothes for me... God heard my persistence and blessed us. I used many of your ideas over the years.

Amy one thing I see when I watch your video's especially when the kids are in them, is a happy, grateful family who certainly never think they are deprived of anything and of course such a credit to you both for bringing them up that way.

We just bought $50 of toys at a value of at least $300 new at a garage sale. *One man's trash is another man's treasure* *Money-saving pro tip:* I have family nearby that has kids slightly older than mine so for Christmas and birthdays I have requested them to not buy new toys for them if they have (intact) toys that they can pass down. No reason we should be the only ones to save money and create less waste. Maybe, that seems gross or lazy to some but honestly, If I can save money and save them money we all win.
@gavienocampbell85954 жыл бұрын
When I was much younger, my mom always told the persons invited not to purchase an toys. They were only allowed to take books and cash, if they wish. I think its better than to waste money to buy toys that the child will outgrow

Great video! Re tip 15. I come from a small place in western Norway and we're famous for our furniture. It's exported all over the world and my dad also had a furniture factory. So I'm used to good quality furniture. When I first got married we bought a lot of our furniture second hand and had it reupholstered/revarnished. To get things reupholstered may not be an option for everyone, but it is doable to revarnish/paint chairs/tables/book cases etc. It's a great way to get good quality furniture for a cheap price. My dining room furniture is from 1952 and belonged to my parents. It might take some time and effort to refinish things, but you might end up with something unique and made from better materials.

Love the video! I am a mom of 6. We are also a one income family. I think every tip you shared, our family does! So amazing how much alike we are! (I'm the same way with not painting my nails, just always keep toe nails painted, and I don't even own any make up! And I do all our hair cuts for 3girls, 3 boys!)We have goats and chickens. We also grow our own blueberries and garden and canning. We do all our cooking at home. Thanks so much for sharing!

We only had 2 children but my husband and I always had to work 2 jobs! I work in health care and he is a cabinetmaker. Worthy trades, but not much income in Canada. In our early years I remember I only had $40 per week to spend on groceries. Thank goodness we grew a lot of our own food and raised chickens and I made my own bread, but even then, there were nights that hubby and I had a cup of coffee for dinner so the kids could eat. Our Lord has delivered us now.🤗 This was ALL great advice Amy. I would contribute to you as well and advise NEVER live in debt. If you can't pay for it in cash- you don't own it and therefore can't afford it don't go in debt for it. Even your car. Save up if you have a dream car! After 22 years the ONLY debt we carry is a mortgage that is almost paid off! xo Great advice!

I had to lose some of my personal treasures when I was in my early twenties to realize you really don’t need much to enjoy life. I have been married for 30 years and have 5 wonderful children, 29, 27, 25, 17, and 11. The good lord helped us get our first house 1 year ago and he led me to Amy right after that. I can tell you I want and want, but I just remember the difference between wanting and needing 🙂 I am so blessed that I have found Amy and her followers. Live like no one else so that layer you can live and give like no one else. Everyone who knows me says I'm the most frugal person they know. I think a few things that help are not caring what other people think ( it's ok to wear 99 cent clothing, that's all I own, and not very many different items, having a challenge attitude vs deprivation e.g. it's a challenge to see if we can spend $x on groceries, and also remembering all the good things that are coming of our frugality. We can give very generously, we are saving for retirement, when something breaks we can fix it. Yes others look like they are having fun spending money but it really is more fun to me to give . We paid our house off and have no debt and it's very freeing. So what do people do but try to talk us into a more expensive home with a mortgage.

Here is how my daughter and I save: 1. No cable or satellite service. 2. Hulu or Netflix. Not both when mom pays. 3. Plan for one eat out. I plan for one occasion per month to eat out. No more then $30 that includes food, delivery, and tip for driver. 4. No brand loyalty. We buy what's on sale and store brand. 5. Occasional delux item. Occasionally we will buy a special item from the grocery store. 6. I don't ware make up. It's expensive and I was blessed with a lovely complexion.

A lot of great ideas; however many need to be adaptable to your lifestyle. A stay at home mom has more time then a working mom who doesn’t have the time for some of those ideas. It’s amazing how much money we unnecessarily spend. A couple of additional ideas: keep children’s birthday parties low key and family oriented instead of having themed birthday parties and inviting all their friends and pay extra on your mortgage when you can. We paid our house off early and saved a lot of money.. This is a great video for newlyweds!

My mom & dad will have been married 51 years come this August. Last year was big for them (no celebration though, because they don't believe in that, just quietly at home, together, nice). Anyway they had their fridge 50 years, since their marriage. They still have their first vacuum (a Nilfisk, a little "tub") and their first furniture. Some things are a little on the worn side. They were planning a big renovation (double glazing, new floors upstairs, painting, etc.), for this year, then Covid-19 hit, and we're in this mess now. We'll get through it. I'm sure! I like your tips, Amy. I am an only child but I had no clubs growing up either (my parents just believed in doing your very best in school and to concentrate on that totally). I had a big garden and swing set. I was fine! Your frugal tips really resonate with me. My parents did have a 2 income family, but my mom still was frugal with everything. It's just a life-style, I guess!

Hi Amy, thank you for these great tips. After being laid off this year and having 0 income, I immediately canceled cable, internet and cell phones, a $285.00 savings. My sistersister-in-law added us to her phone plan at $20 a piece for each additional line. We have not purchased a new TV flat screen or smart TV, our old console TV is 22 years old and still works great. Our car is 17 years old and my minivan is 14 years old. We keep up on maintenance and they are in great shape which is hard to do here in Michigan. You discuss some things I haven't even thought of. Thank you for always taking the time to put so much thought, caring and feeling into the content of your videos. Loving everything you put out there. I enjoyed this! We live like this even now that our nest is empty! Only luxury we have allowed is having our lawn mowed. We have almost 2 acres to mow and the time it took was overwhelming without kids to help. My time is better spent helping with our family business so sometimes it pays to hire help!! And not comparing yourself to others has saved us so much. Keeping up with the "Jones" is no way to live!!! Loved this video, so worth my time to watch and remind myself of all these things!

My mom has certain automatic payments (health care for instance), but not for most of the bills and neither do I. They always take it out way before the date it's supposed to be paid at (same month, but early instead of more to the due date). For that reason we just go bill by bill and keep good track of it! I mean it's your own money, they should not decide when it comes out of your account, I mean often 14 days in advance! Not that interest rates are high these days, but still... It's the principle of the matter. But I get it, if you are so busy with other things, it's very convenient! About the line-drying. We do it for good clothes (shirts, jeans) that often can't withstand dryer heat. Sheets and towels go into the dryer. Gardening; mom & dad are in their mid 70s and still do it themselves. Last my mom looked up how to cut men's hair. She has cut dad's hair for the second time this week, and he loves it (Ed the barber on here has a great tutorial for a regular men's style).

Also if you have a dehydrater it will save you a fortune!!! It saves food gyou don't have time to eat before it goes bad. Saves space. I store a yrs worth of dryed food. Tomatoes, zucchini etc. So much. Make muchroom powder, and beetroot and greens. I can take advantage of fresh produce bulk special buys. Just dry and either eat dry, use in cooking or make stuff later with it. . I do all the thing mentioned as best as I can. I have chooks and lots of garden in my tiny unit yard.

So I do most of these haha I thought i was just a crazy person and you have validated me lol. People around me tell me we are crazy and that raising 3 kids on 2k a month with a house and cars is impossible. We do it and still solurge a tiny bit haha. I have cloth diapers for times we run out of a size. We got alot of disposable given to us and free with coupons so I use them first and cloth to fill in the gaps. I always eat food past the dates. I uave actually gotten a hook up of someone who calls me when the grocery store here in town throws away food. We got 50 cans of formula concentrate for our new born free because it was a month from the expiration date. I have no shame in what I do. My kids are happy I get to be home with them and thats all that matters in life. I have couponed for everything. We have learned to not be brand loyal and be thankful for what we have. We realized we reached a level of thrifty when we refused to throw out a bottle of shampoo no one liked and sat in our shower for three years. We finally put it in the soap dispensers and used it as hand soap lol. Material things don't matter family does.

I recently purchased a shaved ice machine. I make my own syrup (one cup sugar, one cup water, boil 2 minutes and mix in one package of koolaid, cool). I even make one using Sweetened Condensed Milk. One can of condensed milk, vanilla and about one to one1/2 cup of 2%milk. Mix and refrigerate. No need to cook. Taste just like snow cream we made years ago. My family likes to mix the flavored syrup (especially orange with the snow cream syrup).

That is a great video! My tip is to try to connect your car trips. Don't use your car just to go to one place. For example: When you have a doctors appointment, don't just go there. Try to connect it with going shopping afterwards and after that go to the post office. Just plan your trips. I usually go shopping after work on my way home. Saves you a lot of gas money.

I so agree on eating expired, freezer-burned, food with bad spots. Cut off the bad place and you'll be fine. People waste an incredible amount of food. I used to volunteer at a food bank and we were taught that expiration dates on food were not based on science. If the package is not damaged and doesn't smell bad, it is fine to eat. Cut the bruise off the apple and use the rest. Put the freezer-burned meat in a stew.

We just got married. We're very frugal. I left my job it was obvious this was where God wants me to be. At home taking care of our house. Since my husband works a lot. Sometimes I feel guilty for being a homemaker at such a young age. Did you ever experience that? Having guilt for not working. It's something that I am slowly accepting. I love being a homemaker 🧡 it's been rewarding. We have 1 car it's my husband 22 years old. He takes the work van to his job. I try not to go grocery shopping only about twice a month. Plan out our meals. We have been very fortunate to have a house that we are renting. That we can grow in and raise a family 👪

Did you say using re-usable containers?... Growing your own food?... Cooking meals with rice?... making your own bread?... making stock out of the veggie scraps?... It's my goal to try doing more of these kinds of things... small steps, right? One change at a time, right?

Oh yeah, Smuckers is the best and Ragu Alfredo. Spaghetti sauce - I buy Hunts when it is $1.00 a can or less and stock up.

@@tracyparrish6090 we buy the hunts four cheese. It's in a can just like the Del Monte. I think Hunts four cheese is the absolute best. I mix a can of it with my Ragu spaghetti sauce. It's always 1.00 or less at Wal-Mart.

Great video, many were common sense but the sense is not always common. When I was growing up My parents were foster parents. always made baby food from leftovers. One member of my family does not eat leftovers, They would rather starve. I have learned to reuse leftovers and give it a new name and everyone will eat it. Leftover chicken breasts become chicken pot pie. no waste.

lol...Amy, we buy all store brand products as well...Except we too have to have Welch’s grape jelly and Hunts spaghetti sauce. We use to only use Ragu, then there on the bottom shelf I saw Hunts, and it cost $1 a can! Amy, give it a try sometime, I think you will really like it! When my kids were home, and it was spaghetti night, they made sure to be home that evening..lol Thank you for so many tips to help save money. Always appreciated! xo
