Thank you for the information! This makes so much sense. I started my Copic marker journey by purchasing markers from recommended color lists. I now have a large set of markers I never use because I gave up trying to blend them. I'll use your lists to pull out only the colors you recommend and store the rest until I get more advanced.
@AmyShulke2 ай бұрын
@@allisathompson Sounds like an excellent plan! Get to know each marker blend really well before adding a new blend. Copics are like children. Each has a unique personality and behavior traits. A good parent learns to use each color before adding new colors.

Amy, I wish I had known you three years ago, your knowledge is amazing and it would have been great help when I bought my Copic sets, the 72A sketch and 72C sketch, but now I know. Thank you for the list of beginner Copics, it will be invaluable. I am looking forward to the videos and streams coming up!

Ohhh, this is awesome! Wish this was around when I started. I fairly quickly figured that the sets were bad deals, so I thankfully didn't go down that road. I did however buy a lot of markers, only to find they were not what I wanted. ESPECIALLY! pinks and yellows. I did get the YR you suggest from start though. And for all 4 mentioned groups, the colors you list are some of my favorite. I do like my R39, though. But then, I don't have a B32 😂 Thanks, Amy! Looking forward to the next video.
@AmyShulke7 ай бұрын
That's great, I love to hear that others use and love the same markers I recommend. Tells me I'm on the right track! R39 is a great marker, I just hate assigning it to beginners. Keep using it! And I totally hear you on the pinks... it was my last group to complete and it was complete torture. I know I drove the sales clerk nuts, trying to find pinks that didn't radiate toxic waste. Good thing we were already friends or she would have kicked me out of the store.
@tinawilstrup9557 ай бұрын
@@AmyShulke 🤣 i actually have almost all RVs, because pink is my favorite color. But RV13 is my favorite, probably my favorite overall.
@AmyShulke7 ай бұрын
@@tinawilstrup955 YES! I don't love pink but I totally agree. RV13 is a great color! RV11 is weird though and I wish RV10 worked better with RV13.

This came at the MOST opportune time. I am just now getting ready to make my first copic marker purchases. I would rate myself an intermediate type colorer. I feel I know how to blend, however I am by NO means a professional. Have been scoping out the copic marker colors. Making lists of what I think I might need, and am feeling overwhelmed at all the colors, which might blend well, and all else. A couple of the the marker choices you suggested, I found on my wish list, which makes me feel a little better about my choices, but I do have more of the sub zeros added, and am wondering if it really necessary now. I really CAN'T WAIT for the next installment of this series.
@AmyShulke7 ай бұрын
This is awesome to hear! Please be sure to download the full list and feel free to ask questions here. Even if I haven't covered parts of the list in a video yet, I'd be happy to help. I also have some really amazing students who may chime in with their help. About the sub-zeros: What kind of coloring do you do and if it's card making, do you have a particular style you wish to mimic (at least in the beginning)? What I notice about beginners who use a lot of sub-zeros is that they often lack a balance of values in other parts of the image which leads to flat and often washed out images. That's what I'm trying to help people avoid. But if you're really into the pale, pale style, then maybe a bunch of 9 markers will be a waste for you.

@@AmyShulke Hi. I have tried to download the list and it says it can't be found. Idk, I'm probably doing something wrong. Not a very literate techie. Yes, I do enjoy making cards, I have a wide range of things I like to color. I was planning on using the -0 for highlights mostly. I will more than likely be waiting for your next videos and using your recommendations. It is no small investment. I already have ZIGS, and love them, but I'm getting tired of the watercolor-esque avenue and want to try out alcohol markers. However I don't want to break my bank account. I really like the way alcohol markers can be blended. I do a version of this with the zigs but I tend to get frustrated sometimes. I just found your channel this week. I have been watching a ton of your videos. Wish I'd had KZbin when I'd been a whole lot younger. Looking forward to watching more videos, and thank you for the offers of help, from yourself as well as your other subscribers. Any and all is absolutely appreciated. 💜

I messed up the download in the email. Unfortunately, it won't change the email you've already received. Simple solution: take the link in the email to the latest issue of Vanilla Beans, scroll down to the free download library and take that link. The list is also there along with lots of other freebies to enjoy. There's a new issue of Beans coming out tomorrow morning too. There's always a Library link + password in every issue. Edited: I missed your comment about the sub-zeros for highlights. Save your money and use a white Prismacolor pencil instead. One pencil = 1/4 the cost and it's universal, works on all the colors. Hey, this sounds like a good video topic, LOL.

I have warned my husband, I will be spending a lot of time coloring and watching your videos. As to your tip for the -0 markers. I am absolutely going going to take it. Will be taking the money saved from buying 0 markers to buying more color combinations. Thanks for the tip. Looking forward to the newsletter tomorrow as well.

I brought a lot of sets in the beginning thinking it was a great way to ‘build’ my collection. Then I found that a lot of those sets shared many of the same colors and maybe one on the list I actually needed. But now, I have every marker because I’m that ‘full set’ kinda person.

Maybe that's how I ended up with so many duplicates in the beginning. I always figured I was accidentally bringing home markers from work. But at one point, I had like four R29s, LOL.
