A new Stintzi! I will be seeking that out. I’ve loved everything I’ve read by them. Happy reading!

Phantompains is definitely a book I want to pick up. I don’t think I realized Wild Houses was by a Canadian author. Wonderful! 😊💙

@@BookwormAdventureGirl Book*hug put out a physically beautiful edition of Phantompains. The cover artwork is reprised on the inside covers, black on black. The paper stock is lovely, the page design; it’s very attractive. And the contents are powerful.

The Gulf- so funny you identified so much with these young people. At that age, I was so world weary. I'm sure I would have rolled my eyes and thought they were ridiculously naive.

@@sarah-roadworthy World weariness and a disillusionment with the wider world are related, I think. Both are responses to living in a broken society.

Our Crumbling Foundation was fascinating. I’ll be on the lookout for Wild Houses. (The gull sounds in the background kept me looking up.) 😅

I hope you're able to return to rowing soon, Lindy. The Laundryman's Boy and Age 16 both sound good to me! I have Wild Houses checked out from the library and hope to read it in the next week or so.

Hi Lindy, Thanks to you and Jolene, I have so many delicious books to look forward to from Canada.. I have always been interested in Filipino voices. Two of my children are Filipino, well, three with my daughter's marriage happening soon. Aloha friend.

Glad you're still on the mend. How fabulous that you go rowing. My TBR hasn't recovered from your last Friday reads yet Lindy! I'm very interested in Bad Houses, will check it out. I can get Phantom Pains on Hoopla (but haven't got to the several books I borrowed last week yet!) I've listened to Wild Houses too, and absolutely loved it. It better make the shortlist... although I'm currently reading Orbital and I suspect that'll be my pick for winner. I didn't know anything about Colin Barrett and didn't know he was Canadian born. Do you have The Axeman's Carnival by Catherine Chidgey in your magpie book cover collection?

@@LouiseReader I want to see Orbital on the shortlist too. Loved it. Phantompains is a quick read, but powerful. The graphic novels in Hoopla are quick reads too. You should be fine! Enjoy your reading. I have been careful about not going back to the rowing club too soon. My energy levels are quickly depleted. We normally row for 1.5 hours. I think when I do get back, I will start in a single. That way, if I need to cut the session short, I won’t interfere with other crew members.
