I'm a banjo player. A lot of what he was doing were using pretty standard bluegrass rolls for banjo. But assembling them into order for songs like this in a cover...he basically had to reverse engineer the song and teach himself to play it. Not easy. And all of the musicians had to do that. Using runs they are familiar with, but reassembling them in a way that adapts to how different a song like this from bluegrass. These cover and pickin' on guys are pretty much the peak of musicians. It's not at all easy, and I couldn't do it like this I don't think. Not without a LOT of work.

Kris Nelson Kentucky bluegrass has its background influence mixed from Irish, Scots, European, And African blues music. But it's a very young American genre of music from around the 1940's. Yeah, there's always been music from the immigrants that came to the mountains around here, but that's not bluegrass. Bluegrass is purely American, mixed from everything.

So, if you take away anything from my story, PLEASE just let it be, “do NOT let the lady you love around nobody that plays in a bluegrass band!!!”. Bluegrass has not been around that long by name but it's rooted in what they call old time music. the appellations was first settled by the Irish so if you lesson close you can hear Irish folk music in it. I like the older bluegrass that is in three four time. Some times just how a song is played can change the sound. example: Mountain Heart playing whipping post. They are a Bluegrass band but some songs they mix a little old style Blues with it.

Wow, impressed, really impressed. I never thought anyone could do "rocket man" but I was wrong. Great job boys!

Was thinking the same thing! Rocket Man IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE ELTON JOHN! But, hey, this cover makes you realize just how well the song can be treated in a different genre, yet still being honest and respectful to the Elton John version.

The Miracle of KZbin strikes again. Just think how hard that would have been 20 years ago, small band, great recording. Now, you here one song and instantly can find all kinds of stuff. Billy strings you can go back and see him playing with pops in the living room. You should check out this David Bowie cover. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX2kZoiIhdSKhNE
