AN AMERICAN IN PUERTO RICO is a romantic comedy about an American man who loses his Puerto Rican girlfriend because of his intolerance toward the Puerto Rican culture. In order to get her back, he has to deal with a " Parranda, " which is a custom where people eat, drink, sing, and party all night long. ("Un Americano en Puerto Rico" es una comedia romantica sobre un americano que su novia lo deja debido a su intolerancia hacia la cultura puertorriquena. Para regresar con ella, el tiene que lidiar con una parranda, la cual es una costumbre donde la gente come, bebe, canta, y fiestea durante toda la noche entera.)

I have to admit I really liked this movie, the music and mostly the romance of the two. I have been to PR. I loved the culture and family atmosphere yet the music is utmost and I have wonderful memories hearing the traditional parranda sounds. I enjoyed this movie as IF I were Puerto Rican myself. The spirit of Puerto Rican, live onward.

Hilarious. I’ve been married to a hot puerto Rican lady for 33 years now. She’s from Morovis and I’m a white man from the high desert in eastern Oregon. I still remember the first time I met her father, he was whiter than me! He had blond hair, blue eyes and very white skin. I went to Spanish language class at night school on base to be able to connect to her culture and family. Over the years she’s stayed beautiful, never got overweight or anywhere close and gave us two daughters that’re doing great. I’ve seen quite a bit about life in PR but I could never live there, the heat is just too much for my Scottish blood. It’s important to keep your Puerto Rican wife connected to her culture so be prepared if your work takes her away from everything she knows so be patient, send her back home every few months and when you meet other Puerto Ricans or Cubans, get them connected so she can talk with them, it’s very important.

Al igual que los cubanos y venezolanos y colombianos, etc. Los Americanos invadieron nuestra patria, nos hicieron una colonia y ciudadanos de segunda clase. Nos impusieron una ley de mordaza en los 50, que nos prohibía exhibir nuestra bandera o cantar nuestro hymno! Cometieron varias masacres contra nuestra gente que desarmada que luchaban por nuestra libertad, como las masacres de Ponce, Utuado, Jayuya y Lares! Nos espetaron el Jones act donde nos obligan a usar su mercante marina, la más cara del mundo y todos nuestros productos vienen ya con sobre un 20% más de lo que cuestan en cualquier estado de ellos. Son racistas contra nosotros. Aquí no los queremos!

I live in buffalo NY and been here for 8 months only lived in the US when i was a kid (born in the US and moved to the island when i was 10) and never came back since now (im 20) and ive always wanted to move back to US i was taking PR for granted. Now that im here on my own for the first time I start to think about my family and friends, how happy and United we were back when maria hit us. Started to realize how unique us puerto ricans are in so many ways when we leave the island and anywhere i go theres a puerto rican One thing that i love is that theres a 90% chance of me discovering a puertorican just by how he looks lol us boricuas are so proud of are culture, so much that we dont mind carrying our flag wherever we go haha. I so wanna go back home to my family my moms my abuela 😫Amo mi gente, great movie🏄🌴 que viva borinquen!!!!!!

i think it's funny, bc Im PR and my father was in the army, I was raised in the State, but not in area where a lot PR lived. However, after I graduated high school, my parent moved back to PR and I stay in the the States. Now 16 years later i decided to move here 4 months ago, to be close to my parent. i have no accent, speech problem, i can understand our language very well, even read most, and write. But with my speech problem, I am having trouble speaking and ive been practicing, and i remember about 2 mts ago i was tryin to talk to someone in spanish and they said Where are u from? You sound like a gringa....to funny, it was good low budget movie, like soap opera

Excelente película. Trama muy bien desarrollada y, sobretodo, un mensaje muy claro de las diferencias en cultura. Al igual que a John se le hacía difícil acostumbrarse a nuestra cultura, al final Carmen tuvo las mismas dificultades cuando se van a Estados Unidos. Lo que no cuadra es que si ella se crió en NY debió haber estado acostumbrada tanto al frío como a la música. Aún así, me gustó mucho y espero que puedas hacer otras películas tan buenas o mejores que ésta.

Yo he conocido personas donde vivo (San Francisco, California) que vienen de estados los cuales son horribles para vivir. Algunos se quejaban de los inviernos. En conclusión, vivir New York no significa que te va a gustar vivir en otras partes de EEUU.

¡Saludos Jose Sepulveda! Anoche ví todo el vídeo con mi hijo de 15 años y usé el mismo educativamente para cultivar y desarrollar la identidad puertorriqueña en él. Me sorprendí que le gustara el vídeo y que lo viera completamente. Ambos nos reímos mucho y creo que está fue la hora de apreciación boricua más grande que él ha experimentado en su vida mediante un instrumento mediático como su vídeo. Gracias por su aportación cultural y educativa para lo que concierne a mi hijo. Ciertamente, lo disfrutamos. Por otro lado, soy productor de vídeos caseros para mi canal cultural y no comercial de Conociendo a Puerto Rico y entiendo lo difícil que es una producción como la suya teniendo pocos recursos. Por tanto, lo felicito por su gran esfuerzo y sacrificio. Sin embargo, creo que usted puede mejorar su vídeo con algunas cosas sencillas de edición las cuales se las puedo compartir por correo electrónico si me escribe a [e-mail]. Jose Sepulveda it was funny but the main problem is I couldn’t like John’s character at all. He just seemed like gringo ignorance personified. Like I’m never rooting for him in the film to get the girl and don’t feel bad when she leaves him. Honestly don’t even know how they started dating in the first place. I think the base idea of the film is great and overall you did a great job. But I feel for this concept the culture conflict should be more subtle and the relationship a bit more fleshed out. I don’t know I’m no film expert, just my opinions as a viewer and knowledge of these cultures since I’m literally that mix lol. My mom is a Puerto Rican who was born on the island and my dad is Italian-American. Overall though again great job curious to see what other films you will make.
