walk, a hike requires prior preparation and kit
@JackMellor4983 жыл бұрын
I’ve always used the term hiking if I’m out in the wide open spaces, like a big footpath or track across moorland, heathland, and one covers a pretty sizeable distance. If it’s around the city, or into town to the shops, or down the road to the pub, more casual and less about the distance, speed and sport of the activity, you’re solely just getting somewhere in that sense, it’s a walk.
@lynnb25623 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure you have to change elevation at least a hundred feet or more before it can be classified as a hike. Also Woodford Reserve is a bourbon whiskey and is one of the very best Bourbons Kentucky has to offer

In my view a hike has to include at least three of the following: more than 8 miles, requiring special clothing and footwear, you don't stop and turn back just because it starts raining, to a place you couldn't drive to, including climbing more than 500 feet in elevation, taking snacks and water because you'll need them not just because you might like them.

Nice video, makes me think how blessed I am to live in England, at one and the same time densely populated, and somehow managing to have lots of countryside. How do we do that? And sheep, the very essence of pastoral landscapes. Yeah, alright, waxing lyrical there, but hey! what's not to like.

@@brianorozco1074 Not all of the Thames valley is this picturesque. In between this bucolic buckinghamshire countryside is England's silicon valley, because it's British, it's rather small, chaotic, grubby and not very sexy at all. The backbone of the M4 and western railway is all light industry and anonymous dormitory towns, while 5 miles north or south you're rubbing shoulders with Oxford Dons, Earl Spencer, Hooray Henry from Henley or the Windsors further downstream. Lots of famous people come from the Thames valley but few ever admit to it, most of its inhabitants are just passing through. The Office (UK version) is a pretty accurate portrayal. I guess that just makes Marlow all the nicer

Small doorways - small people. And then there's the ceiling height once you are indoors. My friends' house in Somerset had a doorway from the kitchen to the utility room which caused frequent visions of rotating stars and severe pain. It's common all over England. If you go to The National Maritime Museum you can see the jacket that Admiral Nelson was wearing when he was shot. It looks like the right size for a 21C 12 year old.

The reason Marlow has little else [retail] than what my god daughter calls 'piffle' is that this is a deluxe part of the Thames Valley and Milady will have everything delivered from all the appropriate suppliers, from Waitrose to Fortnums, with Scotch eggs and venison pies from Lidgates, Notting Hill. I was in an Italian deli in Beak St, Soho one time - just buying pasta - when I heard someone call out, "Is that eggs order for the Rothchilds ready to go yet?". Who need shops, darling?
